Some homes are spotless. Some are a disaster. Others look like the person just stepped out for a quick run to the gas station.
Clothes half folded on the bed. Dinner still on the stove. Everyday life, frozen in place.
After a few years doing unattended death cleanup, I’ve noticed that every scene has a feeling. Imagine if silence had a feeling.
Then it hits you: nobody has been here in weeks. Maybe months.
I understand why people think our job is just cleaning. But imagine a situation left undiscovered for seven months. Contamination can extend beneath flooring, into subfloors, and through materials that a surface cleaning simply cannot address. Sometimes we have to tear a space apart to reach and remove what’s affected.
That’s the reality of biohazard remediation—and the work we do at Jax Decon, serving Jacksonville, Florida, and the Beaches with crime scene cleanup and unattended death cleanup.
Behind every scene is someone whose life stopped while the rest of the world kept moving. We approach that responsibility with compassion and respect.
Some scenes stay with you.
