Here’s the latest update

“ I wanna update on Zoey, the overall picture right now is she’s fighting and making small progress everyday. Her lungs, heart, ankle, knee and hip are infect along with possibly her elbow. She will have another surgery today on the areas on her leg and elbow if it comes back positive. She remains on life support but it’s turned down and her oxygen mixture on the ventilator is down to 70% instead of 100. She will have to have surgery possibly tomorrow again if she’s stable enough after today and potentially a few more times. The goal is to get as much as they can at one time. Currently she still has fluid in her lungs but it’s coming out slowly. Once her lungs are better she can work on coming off of life support and the ecmo machine. After she’s off ecmo we can do the mri and finally see everything and know exactly where the infection is. She will more then likely need to continue dialysis even off of life support to help get the extra liquid out of her body and help with the overall swelling. Last night she was more alert for a little bit and was able to nod to answer the nurse and even look around a little to focus on Sam and I.

Zoey, Samantha’s 13 year old daughter, was rushed to the ER on July 7th with severe pain throughout her body. What was initially thought to be a sprained knee turned out to be a staph infection (MRSA) in her knee, which quickly led to sepsis and toxic shock syndrome. Zoey was life-flighted to Mott’s Children’s Hospital, where her condition worsened she was placed on life support, flatlined twice in one day, and is now on ECMO and dialysis. The medical team had to operate without the benefit of an MRI to drain the infection from her knee, and Zoey remains in critical condition, fighting for her life every day.
