Happy Halloween from all of us.

Have a good one tonight. Watch the little ones at the crosswalks, keep the candy bowl somewhere the dog cannot reach, and take the photo early, because that costume is not surviving the whole evening.

It gets cold up here fast after dark, so whatever is under the costume matters as much as the costume. That layer takes the same beating.

Whatever comes home covered in something, rinse it cold and keep it away from heat until somebody can deal with it properly. Chocolate, fake blood and face paint all set permanently in a hot wash.

Bring the wreckage in whenever you are ready. We have seen every version of it.

Go enjoy tomorrow night. Let them run the whole street. Let the costume get chocolate on it, the knees get grass on them and the face paint end up somewhere face paint was never meant to be. That is the entire point of the night and it only lasts a few years.

When the sugar wears off and the pile is on the floor Saturday morning, we will be here. Clean machines, plenty of them, wide folding tables and a friendly team.

A quick note for Saturday: rinse anything with chocolate or face paint in cold water before it goes in, and keep it away from the dryer until the stain is gone. And do not leave the costume sitting damp in a bag, because in this climate that is a two-day problem.

Have a safe and ridiculous night out there.

Wash Wednesday tip: Dry your heavy and light items separately.

Towels and jeans take a lot longer to dry than your shirts, so splitting them up keeps the light stuff from overdrying and saves you time and energy. Not in the mood to babysit the dryer? Our wash and fold team sorts and dries it all for you, starting at $1.50 a pound.

Wash Wednesday Tip: Save this one. You are going to need it Sunday morning!

Halloween produces a specific set of stains, but all of them are beatable if you move fast and avoid hot water:

Chocolate: Scrape off excess with a spoon instead of rubbing, which grinds cocoa butter into the weave. Rinse from the back with cold water.

Face Paint & Makeup: Since these are grease based, work in a drop of dish soap to break down the oil. Blot gently, then wash in cold water.

Fake Blood & Hairspray: These are dye based, so speed matters. Rinse with cold water immediately until it runs clear.

Universal Rule: No heat! Always check for stains before drying, because a hot dryer sets missed spots permanently.

Almost everyone washes their sheets, but few know the schedule for the rest of the bed. Here is the full guide.

Sheets and pillowcases need a wash every week. In humid climates, weekly is the bare minimum. Duvet covers should be washed every two weeks. Blankets and throws need attention every 4 to 6 weeks, or more often with pets and kids.

Mattress protectors are the most forgotten: wash those every 2 months. Comforters and quilts need a wash 2 to 3 times a year, plus right before and after storage. Finally, wash pillows every 4 to 6 months. Wash two at a time to balance the drum, and dry completely to prevent trapped moisture and odor.

Most of this heavy bedding will not fit in a home washer. Bring the whole bed to WaveMAX and get it done all at once!
