When I started Renewal, it wasn’t because I wanted to own a business. My hands felt tied. Every plea for support for people like me and my siblings was met with the same lines: “It’s not my responsibility.” or “They have to help themselves first.”

Would you hand a future surgeon a scalpel after a couple of classes and say, “scrub in”? Of course not. They need tools, practice, and guidance. Survivors do too.

In three years of Renewal I have seen how trauma continues into adulthood. The same tactics used by abusers to control and silence children show up again in religion, politics, workplaces, justice, and healthcare.

I started Renewal because my one measley voice was not enough to rescue my brothers and sisters back then.

What I have learned is that the asset is not the business itself. It is the people who share wisdom, who challenge us, and who give grace as we practice new skills without judgment.

That is what Renewal is about. That is what the documentary is about.

Here at Renewal, we’re attempting to build more than a policy driven, strictly structured company. We’re creating a space where people can bring what they’ve got- skills, gaps, willingnessess, weird strengths and desire to grow while doing solid work that supports healing self and inturn elevating our communities as a whole, which feels more important now than ever.

We clean homes. Clients give feedback(& grace) good or not so good. We use that for effectiveve training. We work as a team to go above and beyond in any moment, but especially when we make a mistake.

This is controlled chaos with a purpose. It’s built for people who are practicing how to be consistent, how to communicate, how to show up fully while getting paid. Oh and Resiliency? Air bnbs teach it live time!

We’re NOT looking for people who want to slide by or use their personal experiences to excuse poor decsions. We’re looking for people who want to learn, try, and be part of something that’s growing.

If you’ve been through some tough things and you’re looking for a place to bring your effort, your creativity, your capacity to care we especially want that!

A lil Shout out to our girl Jen Floyd, former Renewal Services Employee/Mentor!! Everything you'd hope to see up close in a US Olympian she is and some. She embodies grace, authenticity and deep care and I have been privileged to see the evidence of her unbelievable character up close. Our team still feels the impact of the mark she left on us and we love to watch her keep it going for others! Our communities are stronger with people like her paving the way!

There’s something about stepping into nature; no pressure, no timeline, no fear to stand up against-just you, the trees, and the fantasy of being a rugged, emotionally overwhelmed lumberjack without judgement.

‼️Yo Homies-Let’s talk some truth.

If you know me, you probably know three things:

1️⃣ I am extremely forgetful. Not just “where did I put my keys?” forgetful. I mean life-altering, disrupt-your-whole-day kind of forgetful. I have memory problems and whole gaps I've lost track of. It's funny some times-but mostly it's really hard to deal with.

2️⃣ Organization is not my strong suit. No list, reminder, or color-coded system has cracked this code yet. I try every day, and every day it humbles me. 😂

3️⃣ If I screw up, I feel it deeply. I carry it. I analyze it. And I have to make it right—because learning the hard way seems to be my specialty.

Running a business as a survivor? It’s messy. It’s personal. It’s filled with moments where I have to admit, “Hey, I need to do better.” My team asked for more structure, more organization—things that don’t come naturally to me. And I had a choice: take it as failure or take it as a challenge.

So today, I organized, labeled, and sorted our cleaning and inventory supplies. A small thing, maybe. But for me? A win. A step forward. A reminder that progress doesn’t have to be perfect to be real.

This is what Renewal Services is about. People who’ve been through hell and are still figuring things out—but doing it together, always getting better. That counts for a lot.
