When mosquito problems keep coming back, I usually find there’s a breeding area nearby that hasn’t been addressed yet.

If you’re starting to notice mosquitoes around your yard, there are a few simple things I usually recommend first.

The biggest thing is reducing standing water anywhere around the property.

It also makes a difference to trim back thick bushes and keep grass maintained, especially around patios and fences where mosquitoes like to rest during the day.

Another thing I usually mention is changing birdbath water often and avoiding overwatering parts of the lawn where water tends to sit.

In the Greater Charlotte metropolitan area, staying on top of those small things during June can really help reduce mosquito activity around the home.

June is when I start getting a lot more mosquito calls around the Greater Charlotte metropolitan area.

Most homeowners first notice it when they try to spend time outside in the evening and end up getting bitten within a few minutes.

What many people don’t realize is that mosquitoes usually build up because of small areas of standing water around the property. It doesn’t take much.

Clogged gutters, flower pots, low spots in the yard, or even water collecting in toys and containers can all become breeding areas.

Once mosquito activity starts building up around a home, it usually gets worse pretty quickly during the hotter months.

If you’re seeing early signs of termites around your home in the Greater Charlotte metropolitan area, there are a few basic things I always suggest checking first.

Start with areas where moisture and wood are close together. Check around your foundation, crawl space, basement, porch, deck, and any wooden areas that touch the soil. I also recommend looking for mud tubes, discarded wings near windows or doors, soft or hollow-sounding wood, and bubbling or uneven paint.

Fixing leaks, improving drainage, keeping gutters clear, and moving firewood or wood debris away from the house can also help reduce termite attraction.

These steps can help lower the chances of termite activity around your home. They won’t eliminate an active colony, but they do make your property less inviting and can help you spot warning signs earlier.

If you’re starting to notice pest activity around your home in the Greater Charlotte metropolitan area, there are a few simple things I usually recommend first.

These steps won’t solve everything on their own, but they do help reduce what’s attracting pests in the first place.

Keeping counters and floors clean, especially in the kitchen, goes a long way. I also suggest not leaving pet food out overnight and storing pantry items in sealed containers so pests don’t have easy access to food.

It helps to seal small gaps around windows, doors, and utility lines, since those are common entry points. Outside, trimming plants and mulch back from the foundation can reduce hiding spots close to the home.

I also recommend knocking down spider webs as soon as you see them and limiting outdoor lighting at night, since lights tend to draw in insects. Fixing small leaks inside is just as important, because moisture can attract pests as well.

I’ve found that staying consistent with these small steps makes a noticeable difference over time.
