The average lifespan of galvanized pipe is 40 to 50 years. However, depending on water quality and environmental conditions, they can last anywhere from 20 to 70 years. Because galvanized piping is highly susceptible to internal corrosion, most homes in Eastern Idaho with pipes installed before the 1960s are at or beyond their functional lifespan.
