Did you know that fall is the BEST time of the whole year to spray your lawn for w**ds! There are several reasons why spraying in the fall gives such good results:
1. Cool, moist conditions favor w**d germination, and the plants are less established. When w**ds germinate in the fall they are small and not deeply rooted. This makes them easier to control with herbicides because the chemical needs less effort to reach the root system.
2. Better herbicide performance due to root uptake/translocation. In fall, many perennial broadleaf w**ds begin to move energy from their foliage into their roots in preparation for winter. If an herbicide is applied in this stage it is translocated down into the room system more effectively, killing the whole plant rather than just burning off the top growth.
3. Lower risk of damage to non-target plants. Cooler temperatures reduce volatizilization of some herbicides making them less likely to vaporize and drift to non-target plants.
