Hey, Everyone!

It's been a while since I have posted anything here. Just wanted everyone out there to know that I am alive and well and still busy helping my customers with their broken stuff.

As some of you already know, my life has changed significantly recently. No juicy details, but I am in a much better place than I was last year. Healthwise, I'm about as good as any 73 year old man could expect, thanks to the Grace of God! Anyway, I have been busy working on fixing your sewing machines, vacuum cleaners, yard power tools, rewiring and renewing a bunch of older lamps, some of which were antique or family heirlooms, and a lot of other things. In between I am also working on some of my own stuff around the house. Pretty busy for a retired old man, eh?

There's an old saying that some of you have already heard; If you need something done, give the job to a busy person and it will get done. For me, having things to do when I open my eyes and lift my head off of my pillow in the morning gets me moving! Whether if's fixing a clogged vacuum cleaner or rewiring an old lamp, it makes me feel good when I can fix other people's things and see the looks on their faces when they don't have to empty their wallets or purses to get them back working, again.

If you have something than needs a little help or a small miracle, please let me know. I prefer working on things that I can carry into my shop, but I might still be able to help you even if they are too large to bring here. I'm only a phone call or a text message away if you need my assistance!

Enjoy the rest of our Summer, Stay hydrated and be SAFE! See you soon!

Happy Autumn Everyone!

Pop-Pop's Fix-It Shoppe is Baaaack! (No, I didn't stop helping people with their broken item's, but I have been spending most of my time Fixing my Shoppe.) It's Expanded, Newly Renovated, has New Lighting and is Completely Reorganized! Pop-Pop is Ready to tackle your Benchtop Repair Jobs...Economically! (Cheap!)

Y'all work Hard for your money. Sometimes Too Hard. Are you tired of buying expensive items like Vacuum Cleaners (It Sucks when your Vacuum Cleaner Doesn't!), Carpet Shampooer's, Toaster's, Coffee Brewers (Coffee! MUST Have Coffee!), Microwave Ovens, Toaster Oven's, etc and having them let you down just after the Warranty is over? Most times it can be Repaired for a Small Fraction of the Original Cost.

I'd bet that some of you even put your Non-Working item's in your closet's and attic's, too. They won't help you if they don't work, will they? (Those "Repair Elves" stopped making House Calls in 1967!) We could all use a Spare Vacuum Cleaner to keep Upstairs. Or a Spare Coffee Brewer or Toaster Oven for Holiday Guests. Just the added convenience of having a Back-Up for your everyday appliance. If you had a reason to keep it (Too good to throw away?), why not have it Repaired for Less Money than you paid for it?

Pop-Pop repairs Drill's, Saw's, Hedge Trimmer's and other Power Tools, too. Like the when your Husband "Accidentally" Cuts or Drills through the Power Cord...Again! (Sorry, Pop-Pop is not responsible for him Drilling holes where they shouldn't be or Cutting wood too short.) Stop allowing him to Throw Broken Power Tools Away!

Pop-Pop also Repairs and Re-Wire's Lamps! (If you have to "Jiggle" the Switch or move the Power Cord to make the Bulb light-up, it might be an Electrical Shock Hazard or a Fire Hazard!) If you have a Lamp that needs Repair, let me know How Long the Power Cord needs to be so you can Eliminate an Extension Cord. Make your Home Safer at the same time it's being Repaired!

You'll be Pleasantly Surprised at how little you will have to pay Pop-Pop's Fix-It Shoppe (In Most Cases) to have your item Repaired and Working For You, Again!

If it will fit on my workbench, Pop-Pop can, Very Likely, help you! Estimates are Free, as Always!

Pop-Pop is only a Message Away from Helping You Save Money! Simply let me know what the item is and what it Is or Isn't doing. We'll work out the details of getting your item to my Shoppe. (Messenger or Text is Best)

Special Note to Contractor's...Don't Stockpile your Broken Power Tools! Or, Worse, Throw them Away! Pop-Pop can Help you with them! Don't allow your Valuable Employees to work with Unsafe or Broken Power Tools! Pop-Pop's Fix-It Shoppe is your Cost Effective Alternative to Replacing them! Estimates are FREE for Contractor's, Too!

Enjoy Our Autumn Weather, whenever it decides to get here!

(Sorry, Pop-Pop is not taking HDTV's right now due to space limitations.)

Greetings of the Season to All of Our friends!

It's almost here. Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Year's, Hanukkah, Kwanza and, for the rest of us, Festivus...Time for Family and Friends to Get Together and Enjoy the Holiday's. Time to Reflect on Our Lives and the Lives of Others Close to Us. Time to Welcome the Additions and Remember the Losses of Family and Friends. Time to remember the Memories of Holidays Past, Especially Our Childhood Memories. Time to Give, too. Especially to those Less Fortunate than us.

Also, Time to Enjoy the Holiday Food and Treats. Turkey, Ham, Sweet Potatoes, Cranberry Sauce, String Bean Casserole, Etc. Then there's the Cookies, Candies, Pies and Cakes that we don't "Need" but still Enjoy. My personal Thanksgiving and Christmas Favorite is Fresh Polish Kielbasa, a Family Holiday Tradition ever since I can remember. We used to get it Homemade from a group of ladies in the Russian Orthodox Church that my Nana and Grand Dad belonged to when I was growing up in Baltimore. But here, on the Eastern Shore, we have to "Settle" for "Store Bought". Not the same, but still a Good Treat.

I've been fairly busy, lately, helping some good people in Oxford with their little "Projects", but I am still here for our Hurlock Friends, too. Even though most of the work that I do is confined to my Workshop (Like Santa?) I will also come to you for Minor Repairs and Projects. (Please, just don't ask me to come "Down Your Chimney"! I lack the "Magic" that Santa Claus has to do that.)

Special Note to Our Fellow Senior Citizens...We Love You and will do Anything to Help You with your Minor Repairs and Projects. Our prices are Always adjusted for Senior's, too. We understand what "Fixed Income" and "Tight Money" means.

If there is anything that you might need Now, during the Holiday Season, or are planning for after the New Year, please call me. As always, We Don't Charge Anyone for Estimates or to Look at your Project, either. Scheduling or Pick-Up is Always At Your Convenience!

Please allow me to close with these Wishes for All of You:

Happy Thanksgiving!
Merry Christmas!
Happy Hanukkah!
Joyous Kwanza!
Happy Festivus! (For the Rest of Us!)
Happy New Year!
And, for Our "Politically Correct" Friends, "Happy Holidays"!

We Hope to See You Soon!

Hey, Everybody!

We're having a Real Autumn, for a change! Enjoy this Weather before the Snow needs to be Shoveled!

I just wanted to share this with you. I usually am asked to Fix Stuff. Sometimes in my Shoppe and Sometimes in Your Homes. Recently I was asked if I could Build several Flower Container Holders for Unity-Washington Methodist UMC Church here in Hurlock. I have been told that they came out Beautiful!

I guess this means that I am "Expanding" the type of things that I can offer to Our Community.

Thanks, Hurlock! And Especially to Unity-Washington Methodist UMC! If there is anything that you need, I'm only a phone call away from helping you

Hi Boys and Girls;

I hope that everybody is surviving the Rain and Wind without any Damage or Injuries. Be Safe wherever you go!

Having recently progressed from a "Senior Citizen in Training" to my "Freshman Year" as a Senior Citizen, I have found that I have a Special Place in my Heart for those of us fortunate enough to have reached this Milestone in our lives. Even with the Aches and Pains, difficulties getting up and down, moving a little slower than we would like and having to take a handful of medications every day just to keep it going, we are still Graced by God to still be here. Every day is a Gift that we should appreciate.

I started this little "Business" because I need to be busy and to make a few dollars to supplement my Social Security. More and more it is becoming obvious, to me, that I am liking the help that I am offering to our community, especially my Associate Seniors. Although I do my Best Work in my Fix-It Shoppe, I am being asked by some of our neighbors to do some Odds and Ends work for them in their homes. And I am thrilled that I can do these little jobs while helping those who cannot do these things for themselves.

I've said this before, and I don't want to sound cliche' when I repeat it, but God has Blessed me with the skills to do a lot of different electrical and mechanical jobs. I did learn a lot from my Dad and from my Grandpop when they were alive. Over the years it was Rare for me to need to call a "Professional" to fix things around the house. It was also rare that I needed to purchase a replacement "thing" just because it stopped doing what it was supposed to do. I just fixed them and kept on going without giving it much thought at all. With this mindset I was able to amass a good sized collection of tools to do these jobs, too.

Please keep Pop-Pop's Fix-It Shoppe in mind when you have something that needs fixing. From your Vacuum Cleaner or Coffee Maker, to an Electric Socket or Light Switch in your Home. Just one Phone Call is all it takes. If it is something that I don't feel that I can help you with, I won't waste your time. If I need to look at it first and make a trip to your home, there won't be a charge to you unless you approve my estimated cost. And I will also Pick-Up and Deliver (Locally) your small appliances at no additional charge. Pop-Pop Never Charges for an Estimate, either!

Lastly, A Very Special Thank You Mayor Joyce Spratt for helping to let everyone in the Hurlock Area know that Pop-Pop's Fix-It Shoppe is here to help anyone with their small repair jobs!

Again, everybody Be Safe during this Nasty Spell of Weather we're having.

Have a Great October!

09/07/2015

Hi, Folks!

Here we are! Summer's almost over, Kids are back in school, and before we know it the Traditional Holidays will be here!

Let's think about the Traditional Holidays for a moment. Entertaining Friends and Family (Cleaning your Home, Cleaning Up After They Leave, Heating up Hors D'oeurves and Making Enough Coffee for a Battleship Load of Sailors), Decorating (And the messes we all know that it makes) and Spending a Lot of Time in the Kitchen Preparing all of the Food to Feed Your Visitors! (This discussion is making Me Tired! )

Whether You are up to it or not, you always manage to find the energy and the time to get it done. You do it every year, whether you like it or not! But are the Tools you need to use for these jobs Standing Ready for the Tasks? Is your Vacuum Cleaner and Carpet Shampoo Machine ready? Your Coffee Maker and Toaster Oven?

What's in your attic or storage areas? Did you put your last Vacuum Cleaner away because it was "Too good to throw away" even though it wasn't working right? Or your last Toaster Oven or Coffee Maker? Your old Beverage Blender? Or your last Mixer? These things can't contribute to being ready for the Holidays if they're stored away and they ain't working right.

Wouldn't it be nice if they Were all Working or Working Correctly? Then, one of your kids could Vacuum the Upstairs while your Hubby Vacuums the Downstairs! You could have Two (Or Three) Toaster Ovens turning out Snacks for your Crowd at the same time! Two Coffee Makers, one (Or Two) for Regular and one for Decaf!

And Don't forget about Safety, too! Frayed Wiring is one of the biggest Fire Hazards in any Home! Some Extension Cords are Cheap and easily replaced. Not so much for those Long Outdoor Extension Cords, though. How about the Electrical Cords that are part of a Lamp or your other small Appliances? The time to check your Home for these Hazards is Now, Before you see any Smoke! Or Before someone you Love (Including You!) gets a Shock or something you Need Stops Working!

Pop Pop is here for you! And Pop Pop does Quality Repairs and Doesn't Charge a Lot to do them, either! Remember this too, "Pop Pop Never Charges for Estimates"! You will never owe Pop Pop anything for Checking your Ailing Appliances! You will never need to "Worry" about the cost when you bring it to me. I will call you and give you a Price, Before you are committed to spending a single Cent! I don't think that there are Any Other Repair Shops willing to do this for you! (Unless you are Related to the Owner!) I will treat you "Like Family"! (Some of my Customers will even say that I treated them "Better than Family"!)

So think about this. If there is anything that I can do to make your life Easier or Better with the services I offer, Please let me know.

(Pop Pop's Fix-It Shoppe is located in the Town of Hurlock. I will Pick-Up locally "Free of Charge" for Senior Citizens, too!)

08/23/2015

Hey Everybody!

The last time I was able to write to you I made a comment about the Weather. Almost as soon as I posted my comments it got Stinkin' Hot! This time I'm keeping my mouth Shut! I have been hearing a lot of Ladies "Cheering" in our neighborhood, though. Is it time for the Children to go back to School, already? Monday? Seems like Summer just started!

I have been very busy during the past Month helping you put some of your ailing appliances "Back to Work" for you. I did have some time leftover to install new LED Lights in my shop. Very Bright AND Energy Efficient, too! It's like I can see again!

I had my new lights on after dark a few nights ago. A car I didn't recognize pulled into my driveway. Two guys in suits, wearing Sunglasses (After Dark?) and looking way too "Official" for this town, got out of the car and came back to my Shop. At first I thought it was the "Blues Brothers", but it wasn't. The Shorter guy says to me "Sir, you'll need to turn those lights out". I asked him "Why?". Then he says to me that the Russians on the International Space Station can't sleep. My Lights are "Too Bright" and they're keeping them awake! (OK, so it wasn't That funny! I tried.)

Seems like most of the work that I have been doing lately involves Cleaning and Unclogging Vacuum Cleaners. Mostly fairly easy jobs and my customers are really surprised just how little money I ask them for what I do. The highest I have charged was $40.00...That was for an Electrolux. (A $900.00 Upright Vacuum Machine!) It was so badly clogged up and neglected that I practically had to take the whole thing apart to get it running right. Another Very Happy Customer! (Yay!)

But, did you know that it is really easy to prevent a Vacuum from clogging in the first place? There's a few simple steps that you can take yourself to do this. Find that Operating Manual. That little booklet that was packed in the box when it was new. Read the section where it explains how to clean it out and clean or replace the Filters. Most Vacuums don't have Bags, anymore, so the Filters have a lot more to do to keep all of the Dust inside. Don't be afraid to use Soap and Water on the Plastic Parts in the Dust Collector. Don't wet the Filter! Make sure that everything is allowed to dry overnight before putting it all back together!

What the Book won't tell you is "Why" you need to keep the insides Clean and Dry. The reason is that as soon as the insides and the Filter start to get even a little dirty, your Vac will start to lose suction. Most vac's don't have a lot of suction as it is, so when they start to lose it, then there isn't enough Suction to keep the dirt and lint from starting to clog. As you keep trying to clean your home with it, the clogging gets worse very quickly. Pretty soon it's completely clogged and you can't get far enough inside to remove all of the stuff that's clogging it up. Some of the less expensive Vacuums use motors that can't take the extra work that a clog creates for them so they just Overheat. Then they aren't even worth trying to fix.

Before your Vacuum gets that bad, why not bring it to Pop Pop? If it only needs a thorough cleaning (I call this a Mini Tune-Up) I'll give you a Very Fair Price before I start, and then I'll Git 'Er Done! I have found that even a Very Inexpensive Vac can last and last if it's taken care of before it clogs-up! If it's already beyond worth fixing, I won't take your money. I'll just make a suggestion or two to you.

I'll be right here if you need me! If you aren't sure if I work on a certain appliance, it only takes a quick call to ask me. Or you can send me a Personal Message (PM) right here on Facebook.

Enjoy Your Autumn!

Until Next Time,

Pop Pop

07/27/2015

Hi Everybody!
I hope that everyone is enjoying this "Not so Hot and Humid" Weather we are having. I know the Farmers need more rain, so I hope we get more for them.
Do you have an "Ailing" Vacuum Cleaner, Coffee Maker or other small appliance that you stuffed into your Attic or Storage Closet after it stopped working because you thought that it was worth too much to throw away? Then you probably just went out and bought a replacement, didn't you?
Why do I ask you this question? It's not doing you any good stuck up there. Would it be helpful to have it as a Back-Up for the replacement you already bought and are using every day? Or, for some things, having two working items might not be a bad idea. Like a Vacuum Cleaner for Upstairs and one for Downstairs! Or for the Garage or a Workshop. A Second Coffee Maker for Entertaining. Say, one for Regular and the other for DeCaf! Keeps all of your Friends happy that you thought of them!
It ain't doing you any good if it's broken and you are storing it. It won't help you if the replacement stops working tomorrow. Then both of them will be useless and the "Break and Buy" cycle will continue. You can't even try to sell it at a Yard Sale because people won't want it.
Pop Pop's Fix-it Shoppe is here to help. Get those things out of your attic and let me take a Free look at them. And Free really means Free! If it is worth fixing, I'll give you a price that's Fair and Honest. If you say "No", that's OK. If it ain't worth fixing, I'll tell you that, too. It IS your choice!
I have the Tools, the Know How and the Time to help You. Whether I live Next Door or or on the other side of the County, we're still Neighbors. And this is how I will treat you...Like a Good Neighbor!
Take a look in your Attic or Storage Closet to see if you have any broken things that need Fixin'! Even something as simple as a chewed up electrical cord. Then call Pop Pop for directions to my Shoppe. You'll be glad you did!
PS: Some people have asked me why it's a "SHOPPE" and not a "SHOP". Well, when my Grand Dad was living, his favorite Restaurant was called "Hot Shoppe". We'd pile into his '52 Pontiac and drive to Washington from Baltimore to visit one. (Anybody from the Washington, DC area remember the "Mighty Mo"?) His sense of humor caused him to pronounce it "Shoppee". I chose to use the spelling "Shoppe" to Honor him and the childhood memories he left me.
