A JV player shared his story with me while his gear was being sanitized. He cut his foot on a skate blade in the locker room . His foot got infected, what doctored believe from his equipment . The infection lead to his leg , then his hip. Which then lead to a surgeon removing the infection in his hip. If a player has cuts on the hands and feet make sure they are protected . Why is it important to sanitize athletic equipment? A story shared by a GBS JV hockey parent while sanitizing his son's gear. His son cut his foot. The cut got infected. The infection led him to being admitted to the hospital for 2 weeks with an antibiotic IV. The infection spread to his hip which required hip surgery. Good news player is in full recovery and playing hockey again.
