Well 19 years ago I didn't have two dimes to rub together, I was married with 6 kids. I had always wanted my own business so something one morning told me to pick up a Tulsa World and look at the business section. Well being a man of faith I did what I was told and I came across this company that had this funky looking machine that cleaned carpet like I'd never seen before. It read that if your interested in your own company that you can come speak to this man who was starting a franchise in broken arrow. I told Tracy about it and we agreed that we'd go over and check it out. We decided to go for it and I had a rent house in wagoner so I took a mortgage out on it and with faith and a partner (Teague Porter, who has always shown she believes in me) I left the auto parts business of 21 years and ventured into the unknown. The first 2 years was tough and it really tested my faith. Being a new company no one knows about you unless you market, so being on a shoe string budget we made these pink flyers and I would walk numerous neighborhoods and put them on doors. I would get a few calls a month and then I wouldn't. So I endured and kept working and marketing my business till eventually I would get a call or two a day. Well let's just say after 3 years I didn't have to go walk neighborhoods for business because my customers bragged about our cleaning services and they were getting me more business than I could ever present myself. I'm grateful to have worked for a great company called autozone that taught me how to take care of the customer. If you take care of the customer, the customer will take care of you. I never got into business to make a lot of money and if you use our services know that I will take care of my family first but also I will use profits to extend a helping hand into my community and those in need and that is what I like most about owning my business in that I can support my family and also my community. I'm thankful for all my customers and businesses that have helped make OxyMagic Carpet Cleaning a success and look forward to more carpets to clean in the years to come.
I won an award while I worked for autozone and engraved on the award is a quote from Pitt Hyde the founding owner, and it reads;
"When a customer likes you and is friendly toward you, they will find more reasons to give you business than you could ever present yourself"
In any job situation you find yourself in, make it a habit to make friends not customers, it will benefit you and your business in ways you don't know.
Jeff porter doesn't have customers, he has friends and some really good ones!
