Sheepish Handspun

Sheepish Handspun Beautiful hand spun yarns from fleece purchased iocally. I make beautiful handspun yarns for knitters who want "the real thing".

i prepare raw fleece, washing and carding it, and often blending it with dyed fleece to produce lovely colors. I use a drum carder to blend different fibers, like silk, soy silk, bamboo or alpaca fiber with wool. My yarns reflect the joy and respect I have for sheep and the people who care for them. I try to use fleece from sheep I have met, and who live in New England. The adventure of making yarn in the time-honored way includes visiting farms and buying great fleece for your knitted handwork

This is the 3rd (or 4th) skein from the big bag of dirty Romney Cormo fleece underneath my kitchen counter. My son-in-law tells me it looks like it’s getting bigger every day! I still have a lot of the fleece left, and I will work it until I can see the floor under the big bag.

I also finished plying, skeining and soaking the brown Manx Loaghtan yarn today. It’s nice to have 2 yarns hanging. I will be washing and carding more white fleece this week. I ordered some Black Welsh Mountain wool for a little “something different”.

What you are looking at is the next skein of dyed Romney/Cormo cooling in the dyepot. The remaining water is clear! No strawberry colored dye in the remaining water. That happens because I calculate the amount of dye with the weight of dry yarn to be dyed. Works every time, and no dye goes down the sink.
OK, it’s “Strawberry Sheep”.
