Septic tip: Know the warning signs your drain field is struggling:
• Soggy or extra-green spots over the drain field
• Sewage smell in the yard
• Slow drains or gurgling pipes
• Backups in the lowest drains in the house

Not every lot can handle a regular septic system. Poor soil, a high water table or a tight lot can rule out a conventional drain field, but that doesn't mean you're out of options.

We install ATL, LPD and drip systems, and we're one of the few crews in the area that does all three. These systems let us put a working septic system on property that wouldn't pass otherwise, and often in a smaller footprint.

Own a lake house you rent out? If your listing says it sleeps 18, Bedford County wants a septic system sized for 9 bedrooms, and a lot of lake homes only have a 3 or 4 bedroom system.

Septic tip: What you flush matters. "Flushable" wipes, grease, paper towels, and harsh chemicals are hard on your system and lead to expensive repairs.
