🏠🔨 WHY DON’T WE INSTALL NEW FELT OVER OLD FELT?

At Universal Roofing & Restoration, we believe a quality roof starts with proper preparation! 💙

When replacing a roof, removing the old felt (underlayment) allows us to:

✅ Inspect the roof decking: Identify rotten, damaged, or weakened wood that may need replacement.

✅ Create a clean surface: New underlayment can be installed properly without relying on old, worn-out materials.

✅ Identify hidden problems: Removing old layers can reveal moisture damage, deteriorated decking, and other issues that might otherwise go unnoticed.

✅ Follow proper installation practices: A roof system should be installed according to manufacturer requirements and applicable building codes.

⚠️ Adding new felt over old felt isn’t always the right solution. Old underlayment can hide damage and may interfere with proper installation. Removing it allows us to inspect the decking and build the new roof system correctly.
