One of the first questions homeowners ask me is: How big should my pool be?
The answer usually has less to do with the size of the backyard and more to do with how you plan to use the pool.
A family that wants a place for kids to swim and play may need something completely different from a couple looking for a relaxing backyard retreat.
Before we start designing, I like to understand a few things:
• How many people will regularly use the pool?
• Do you entertain often?
• Do you want a spa?
• Is a tanning ledge important to you?
• Do you want room around the pool for furniture and entertaining?
• Will you actually swim laps, or is the pool primarily for recreation?
Sometimes a smaller, well-designed pool creates a much better backyard than simply building the largest pool that will fit.
**Good pool design starts with how you want to live in the space-not with the dimensions of the pool.**
That conversation should happen before the first line of the pool is ever drawn.
