🕷️ Some decorations hang themselves.

This time of year, North Georgia porches fill up with webs that nobody bought at the store. Joro spiders in their yellow-and-black costumes stretch golden webs across shrubs and eaves, and orb weavers spin fresh ones every single night. Overnight artists. Silent architects. Uninvited guests who never ring the doorbell. 👻

The good news? Most of them are harmless and just looking for a treat of their own... and it's not you. 😅

Happy Halloween from all of us at Olympic! 🎃

Yellowjackets & Tailgate Season

🏈 Game day in North Georgia means tailgates, fall festivals, and one uninvited fan who shows up every October.

Yellowjacket colonies are at their biggest this time of year, and as their natural food sources dry up, they go looking for sugar. Soda cans, sweet tea, caramel apples, and anything on the grill are fair game. They’re also more defensive in the fall, and many build nests in the ground, so a rake or a mower can stir up a whole colony in seconds.

✅ Game-day tips:
🔸 Keep drinks covered or use cups with lids
🔸 Check your can before you take a sip
🔸 Bag up food scraps and trash right away
🔸 Watch for steady traffic in and out of a hole in the yard before you mow

🍂 Cooler weather doesn’t mean pests are gone. It means they’re looking for a way inside.

Here’s a quick fall checklist from our team:
🔸 Stack firewood away from the house and off the ground
🔸 Replace worn door sweeps and weatherstripping
🔸 Seal gaps around pipes, cables, and vents
🔸 Trim tree limbs that touch the roof
🔸 Clean out gutters so moisture doesn’t build up

And remember, termites don’t take winter off. They stay active underground all year, so fall is a great time for an inspection.

🦟 Did you know some mosquitoes don’t die off in the winter?

Female Culex mosquitoes slip into garages, sheds, crawl spaces, and storm drains as the cold sets in. There they wait, biding their time until the first warm spring evening, when they rise again, ready to bite and lay the next generation.

Bugs sunning on your siding? Stink bugs and boxelder bugs are gathering on warm walls right now, hunting for cracks to sneak inside for winter. 😩

They won't bite, but stink bugs smell bad when you squish them, and boxelder bugs can stain walls and curtains. 𝗧𝗶𝗽: 𝘃𝗮𝗰𝘂𝘂𝗺 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗺, 𝗱𝗼𝗻'𝘁 𝗰𝗿𝘂𝘀𝗵 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗺!

The best time to keep them out is before they get in. You know who to call!

🕷️ Cooler weather means brown recluse spiders start looking for a quiet, undisturbed place to hide out. Think closets, boxes, attics, and rarely used corners. They're not aggressive, but a bite can be nasty, so if you're seeing them indoors, it's worth a look.

🐞 Noticing little "ladybugs" clustering on your windows? Those are most likely Asian lady beetles, not the real thing, and they're hunting for a warm spot to spend winter. This year's numbers may be lighter than usual, but if you're seeing them creeping in, give us a call before they settle in for the season. 📞 (678) 541-0372

Yeah, it happened. Not every infestation reaches this level, but delayed treatment allows German cockroaches to multiply fast. If you see one, plenty more are hiding nearby.
