Load With Aloha to pack it right and haul safe 🚛📦 Whether you’re moving house or just heading to the beach, how you pack your vehicle matters for our ʻāina. Think of it this way: if it isn't tied down, it's going to fly out of your truck and sit on the road until the next rain washes it into a storm drain and straight to the ocean.

We need your help to keep our roadways and ocean free of pollution! Stay tuned for more tips and details on how you can make a difference in your community.

Memorial Day in Hawai‘i is a beautiful time for remembrance. As we gather with our ‘ohana to honor the brave men and women who served, let’s show our gratitude by protecting the ‘āina (land) and kai (ocean) they loved and defended 🇺🇸🌊
Mālama’s Reminder: Remember that our actions on land have a direct "current" to the ocean.

As communities face growing challenges from climate change, flooding, and water pollution, careers in storm water are becoming more important. Rainwater runoff can carry pollutants from streets and sidewalks into rivers and oceans, harming ecosystems and public health. Effective storm water systems help protect infrastructure, support cleaner waterways and build more resilient communities. A wide range of careers help make this work possible.

What do you get the graduate who has everything? How about a meaningful gift full of memories and free of waste? 🎓

Graduate to greener habits and head straight for the closet! Taking those old school club tees, sports jerseys, and favorite "growing up" shirts and stitching them into a quilt is a fun and sustainable way to mālama your grad and the planet. Every shirt we upcycle is one less item heading to the landfill, storm drains, and inevitably the ocean.

We need your help to protect our marine life! When you participate in our Adopt-A-Highway program, you help us reduce the negative impacts of roadside litter and debris on our ocean. Now that we offer dual adoption, up to two groups may be assigned to any two-mile section of state highway for a minimum of 2 years. Each group is asked to conduct a minimum of four cleanups along their route per year. Visit our website for more information.

Gift giving is a meaningful way to show love, appreciation and connection. A thoughtful gift brings joy to both the giver and the receiver. At the same time, many gifts and their wrappings end up in landfills or as roadside litter that clogs our storm drains and pollutes our ocean. The good news is there are many creative ways to give more sustainably. Often, the most meaningful gifts are handmade and reflect the time and care put into making them. Choosing reusable or low-waste gifts is a simple way to celebrate someone while reducing trash.

Graduation is right around the corner for many students, along with celebrations of their academic achievements. While celebrating the graduates in your life, you can graduate to greener habits by making mindful choices that reduce waste and help you spend time with the people you love a little more sustainably.

Disposable party supplies and excess trash can end up in our storm drains and waterways. Promoting sustainability while we celebrate graduations, birthdays, holidays, and other major milestones will protect our oceans for future generations, and that’s something worth celebrating too!

It’s graduation season in the islands, and that means it’s time for mountains of lei and unfortunately mountains of waste.

Did you know most caps and gowns are made of 100% polyester? Also known as plastic. When these items are thrown away or left behind, they can break down into tiny microplastics. If they end up on our streets, rain washes them straight into our storm drains and out to the ocean. This year, ask a cousin, friend, or older sibling to borrow their gown as a way to graduate to greener habits!
