Does sealing marble prevent stains?

It helps, but it does not make marble stain-proof.

A penetrating sealer slows the absorption of liquids, giving the property team more time to clean up spills before they pe*****te deeper into the stone.

What sealing does not do:

• Remove existing stains
• Correct etching
• Restore a dull finish
• Remove scratches or mineral buildup

This distinction matters because etching and staining are two different forms of damage.

A stain is absorbed into the stone.

An etch is physical surface damage caused by an acidic substance reacting with the marble. Because the surface itself has changed, sealing will not remove the dull or discolored mark.

The stone must first be properly evaluated, cleaned and restored. Sealing is the protection step, not the restoration step.

Why Three Companies Couldn’t Restore This Shower Glass

Not every cloudy shower enclosure needs to be replaced.

We recently restored a shower enclosure where years of hard water mineral buildup had left the glass looking permanently etched. Before we were called, three different companies had attempted to restore it without success.

The problem wasn’t the glass.

The problem was correctly identifying what was bonded to the surface.

Hard water deposits can chemically bond to the glass over time. Standard cleaners, acids, and household products may remove surface soil, but they often can’t remove bonded mineral deposits that continue to leave the glass looking cloudy.

After evaluating the condition of the glass, we used a professional restoration process designed to remove the bonded mineral buildup instead of simply cleaning the surface.

The result was a dramatic improvement in clarity while preserving the existing glass.
