Is Your “Roof Leak” Actually a Roof Leak?
Yesterday I got a call from a client worried about their roof leaking. We’d just completed their roof in July, so naturally they were concerned.
When I got there, I discovered something important: their roof wasn’t leaking at all.
Here’s what was actually happening. Due to the cold weather, their home was losing massive amounts of heat into the attic. That heat was turning into frost on the underside of the roof deck. Then, when the afternoon sun warmed things up, all that frost melted and dripped onto their ceiling, looking exactly like a roof leak.
This is a sign of inadequate attic insulation, and it’s more common than you might think, especially during cold snaps like we’ve been having.
If you’re seeing water stains on your ceiling, ice dams on your roof edge, or noticing your heating bills creeping up, you might be dealing with the same issue.
The good news? Proper attic insulation can solve this problem, keep your home more comfortable, and save you money on energy costs.
If you’re concerned about what you’re seeing in your home, give us a call at Apex. We offer free insulation inspections and can help you figure out exactly what’s going on.
Don’t let heat and money escape through your roof this winter.
