It does not ruin anything overnight. It just leaves a little mineral behind every time water evaporates — on the shower glass, around the faucet base, in the tracks of the sliding door. Six months later you have a film that ordinary spray will not touch.

Fair question — the term gets used loosely. Here is how we approach it.

We start high and work down, so nothing we knock loose lands on a surface we already finished. Ceiling fans, light fixtures, and upper cabinets come first. Then counters, appliance exteriors, and fixtures. Floors are last, always.

Kitchens and bathrooms get the most time, because that is where buildup is hardest to reverse once it sets.
