This is not a machine malfunction- this is caused by too much detergent.
Most people don’t realize this, but using less laundry detergent often gives you cleaner clothes, not dirtier ones.
When you use too much soap, your washer can’t rinse it all out, so a thin film of detergent gets left behind in the fabric. That residue traps dirt, bacteria, and hard water minerals, which makes clothes look dull, feel stiff, and even smell musty.
Modern washers are designed for small amounts of low-sudsing detergent, so big scoops just create extra suds that stop clothes from rubbing against each other like they should. That “scrubbing” action is a big part of what actually gets things clean. Because of the excess amount of suds, the drains overflow, and this is the result.
So if your laundry is coming out dingy, stiff, or not smelling fresh, try this: cut your detergent back to about half of what you’re using now and see what happens. Your clothes, your skin, your washer, and your wallet will all be happier.
