Toilet paper can cause homeowners all sorts of problems. All toilet paper claims to be septic safe and unfortunately it is not. The thick, cushy stuff like to plug lines and the baffle region of the tank. Play it safe! Use the cheap stuff!

Here she goes talking about toilets again....but here's why...they can leak a TON of water out to your system if not fixed! Many times customers have a sticking or leaking toilet in the house, but think their septic system is failing because water starts pooling on the laterals. However, one quick visit from a plumber can typically fix that. The pooling won't go away right away, but it will solve the problem and doesn't mean you need me tearing up your yard or charging you $1000s in repair. Got water pooling on your laterals? CHECK YOUR TOILETS FIRST!

How does rain effect your septic system? Well, if it's a newer system it likely won't effect it much (assuming we aren't getting a flood...) But if your system has some age on it, it could potentially cause you some problems. Your lateral field absorbs all the water the you use in your house, and as it ages, it doesn't like to absorb as efficiently as it used to. If your system is older and we get lots of rain over a short period of time, this can cause issues. Think 5 gallon bucket trying to hold 20 gallons of water. If this is a problem for you, give us a call and we can walk you through some things that might help!

Feeling a little nostalgic today....
If you know our Southwick company, you probably know Brad and Jackie Southwick. Brad bought out his Dad's company (Big Clyde) and started Southwick Sewer and Drain. He and Jackie ran the company for over 30 years. Jason and I purchased it from them in 2013. Jackie sent me over some pictures last week so I could make this post. It all started for them in March of 1977....enjoy the trip down memory lane!
