They are overwintering in your homes attic and a warm up or cold snap brings them out of torpor and while searching for their preferred temperature range they often end up in living areas of homes.

Dealing with an infestation of mice and a do it yourselfer? I recommend using this product placed in locking bait stations.
If you only have one or two, use wooden snap traps placed within 10’ of the activity. Mice are curious critters and will, sometimes, even get caught in the traps without bait.
