Keeping your pool water crystal clear isn’t just about adding chlorine! Maintaining the correct chemical balance is essential for safe swimming, protecting your pool equipment.

🔬 Recommended Pool Water Chemistry Levels:

✅ pH: 7.2–7.8
Helps chlorine work effectively while preventing irritation and damage to pool surfaces.

✅ Free Chlorine: 1.0–3.0 ppm
Helps kill bacteria and keep your pool clean and sanitized.

✅ Total Alkalinity: 80–120 ppm
Helps stabilize pH levels and prevents sudden fluctuations.

✅ Calcium Hardness: 180–220 ppm
Helps protect pool surfaces and equipment. Some pool guidelines recommend 200–400 ppm, depending on pool type and conditions.

✅ Cyanuric Acid (CYA): 30–80 ppm
Protects chlorine from being rapidly destroyed by the sun. Too much CYA can reduce chlorine’s effectiveness and make algae harder to control.

✅ Total Dissolved Solids (TDS): Below 2,000 ppm
Monitoring dissolved minerals and salts helps identify potential water quality concerns.

💜 WHY IS MY SWIMMING POOL TURNING PURPLE? 💦

Have you noticed purple stains or discoloration appearing on your pool walls, steps, or equipment? Your pool’s cyanuric acid (CYA) level could be part of the problem!

🔬 WHAT CAUSES PURPLE POOL STAINS?

Cyanuric acid, also known as chlorine stabilizer, helps protect chlorine from being destroyed by the sun. However, when CYA levels become excessively high, it can contribute to conditions that allow purple staining to develop.

Purple staining is often caused by copper cyanurate, which can form when elevated CYA levels combine with copper in the pool water.

⚠️ COMMON CAUSES INCLUDE:

💧 Excessive use of chlorine tablets or stabilized chlorine products.

💧 High CYA levels from years of chemical buildup.

🛠️ HOW DO YOU FIX IT?

✅ Test your pool water for CYA and copper.

✅ Reduce excessively high CYA levels, often through partial draining and refilling.

✅ Have a pool professional evaluate the staining before attempting
treatment.
