We're nearly a week into August, and that means deer hunting season is approaching! Wisconsin has one of the earliest bow hunting seasons, opening September 14th. Iowa and Illinois open just over two weeks later on October 1st. Though Wisconsin opens earlier, the season closes January 5th of next year, while Iowa and Illinois close January 19th. If you want to maximize hunting time, take advantage of nonresident hunting tags!

Someone brought a deer head in two days ago, the first of the new fiscal year! Thankfully it was taken good care of, meaning it was put in the freezer upon harvest. As I divided up the extra meat amongst the various colonies, I could only guess at what the bugs were thinking as the swarmed all over it! "Meat's back on the menu, boys!" is the closest I could come up with!
