Having A Cleaner who's educated In the science behind chemicals and household surfaces is extremely important. I have seen some things on the Internet lately even local businesses that have me scared for people's homes & I have a couple TikTok Trends as well that need Debunked!!
So here are just a few common mistakes or trends home owners and renters should be aware of.
Toilet Bowl Gel (Lysol, it works ect) - never use it anywhere but your toilets! It's not a grout cleaner and it's not a bathtub miracle agent. Even though it does get the worst bath tub almost brand new looking DO NOT LET IT FOOL YOU! It will eat away at your grout seal, grout, tile, and strip and ruin your porcelain.
This product is never supposed to be mixed with bleach! It creates Chloramine in the air which can be fatal!!!
FABULOSO- THIS IS NOT A DISINFECTANT! IT DOES NOT KILL BACTERIA! It was actually recalled recently for pseudomonas species bacteria found in their product! Never ever ever ever put the bottle of fabuloso in the tank of your toilet! I know TikTok swears your toilet will smell like a field of flowers but it's corrosive! It will damage the hardware and cause leaks! Do not mix with bleach because it causes Chloramine which can be fatal!
Magic Erasers- I know I know everyone's best friend. I don't have much bad things to say about this product just reminders on what it's supposed to be used for. Do not scrub painted baseboards with these it will peel your paint off eventually. Do not use on any vehicle exterior!! Do not use on limestone, marble, or stainless steel!
Ajax- do not use this to clean your shower doors!! it will leave tiny scratches. Never use on porcelain sinks or tubs! never use on natural stone, painted surfaces or aluminum. NEVER MIX WITH DISH SOAP it creates ammonia in the air!
Vinegar - I love vinegar and I love using it to help me tackle tough cleaning jobs BUT here is some things vinegar should never be used on! Never use this when cleaning granite, soapstone, marble, limestone, onyx, travertine, or quartz! It will break down sealers and leave your counter tops looking dull, cloudy, and scratched. ITS CORROSIVE TO STAINLESS STEEL! Never use on natural wood! Hard wood floors or furniture!
I hope this helped and at the very least educated some people on what not to do!
