🏡 Floor Talk: Day 4 – Luxury Vinyl Plank (LVP)

Hey there, cleaning besties! 👋🧽

Welcome back to Day 4 of our flooring series! Today we’re talking about one of the hottest flooring trends out there—Luxury Vinyl Plank, better known as LVP.

LVP has become a favorite among homeowners because it gives you the beautiful look of hardwood without many of the maintenance concerns. It’s durable, stylish, and often water-resistant or even waterproof, making it a great choice for busy families, kids, and pets.

But don’t let the word “waterproof” fool you… it still deserves proper care!

Here’s how to keep your LVP floors looking their best:

✅ Sweep, dust mop, or vacuum regularly to remove dirt and grit that can slowly wear down the protective finish.

✅ Use a damp microfiber mop with a pH-neutral cleaner or one specifically made for luxury vinyl flooring.

✅ Wipe up spills promptly. While many LVP floors can handle moisture better than other flooring types, standing water can still find its way into seams, under baseboards, or beneath the flooring.

✅ Use felt pads under furniture and avoid dragging heavy items across the floor to help prevent scratches and scuffs.

🚫 Avoid: Steam mops (unless your manufacturer specifically approves them), abrasive scrub pads, waxes, oil soaps, and harsh chemicals. These products can damage the protective wear layer or leave behind a dull, sticky residue.

💡 Pro Tip: One of the biggest mistakes people make is using too much cleaner. If your LVP floor always looks streaky or feels sticky, there’s a good chance you’re leaving behind product buildup. A light application with the right cleaner is usually all you need for a beautiful shine.

Fun Fact: Not all vinyl flooring is the same! Luxury Vinyl Plank (LVP) is designed to look like hardwood, while Luxury Vinyl Tile (LVT) mimics the look of ceramic or stone tile. They may look different, but their cleaning and maintenance are very similar.
