It’s funny how one small entry hole tells a much bigger story. A squirrel might claim it first, slipping in during the day, only for bats to take over after dusk. What looks like a simple gap becomes a shared doorway—used by different species at different times.

One opening, many visitors—nature doesn’t waste an opportunity. Let Central Michigan Wildlife Services solve all your issues.

🦝 Why Raccoons Choose Your Attic — And How to Stop Them Before They Move In

Think raccoons end up in your attic just because it’s easy to get in? Think again.

A mother raccoon is strategic. She’s looking for the perfect attic den site—and homes with existing rodent or bat activity are at the top of her list. Why? Because it gives her a built-in food source right inside or around your home.

That means:
✔️ Less time leaving her babies
✔️ Less movement around your property
✔️ Lower risk of predators tracking her cubs

🏠 Here’s What Most Homeowners Don’t Realize
Raccoons are usually the final stage of a bigger problem:
➡️ Mice or bats move in
➡️ Small squirrels follow
➡️ Larger squirrels expand entry points
➡️ Then raccoons take over the attic

By the time you hear heavy footsteps above your ceiling… the damage is already happening.

⚠️ And It Gets Expensive Fast
Raccoons don’t just “live” in your attic—they tear it apart:
❌ Ripped insulation
❌ Damaged vents and roofing
❌ Contamination and strong odors

💰 Waiting = higher repair costs

🔍 The Smart Move? Get Ahead of It
Even if you don’t see signs, your home could already be on the radar.

A professional inspection once a year can:
✔️ Catch early entry points
✔️ Identify hidden rodent or bat issues
✔️ Stop raccoons before they move in

🚫 Not all companies are equal. If they’re just poisoning animals when numbers get high, they’re treating symptoms—not the problem.

✅ You want a service that:
• Removes wildlife safely
• Seals every entry point
• Keeps them out for good

📞 Don’t wait until your attic becomes a den site.
The longer you wait, the more it costs.

Torpor is a physiological state of "decreased activity" that allows bats to survive when food (insects) is scarce and temperatures drop. It is more flexible than deep hibernation; a bat can enter torpor for a few hours or several days at a time.

Heart Rate: Their heart rate can drop from a flying speed of 1,000 beats per minute to as low as 4 beats per minute.

Energy Savings: By lowering their body temperature and slowing their metabolism, they can reduce their energy costs by about 98%. Besides living off stored body fat during this period they will wake up and feed on insects that are in a phase of diapause.
They will maintain a temperature 35 to 45 degrees . This is done by adjusting their depth in the insulation.
If you are hearing scratching and clicking or chirping type noises in ceiling you may have bats.

call Central Michigan Wildlife Michigan Wildlife Services and we can come up with a solution to rid your home of bats.
