A white cane is a tool for independence, confidence, and connection.

October 15th is White Cane Safety Day, also recognized as Blind Americans Equality Day. Today, we celebrate the contributions of people who are blind or have low vision and reaffirm their right to equal access and opportunity in every part of community life.

We all have a role in creating a welcoming, accessible community. A simple place to start: ask before offering assistance, respect the person’s answer, and never grab someone or their cane.

At Vision Resources of Central Pennsylvania, we’re proud to support independence and possibility, today and every day.

Small dots. Handy helpers. 🟠

Finding the right button on a microwave or washing machine can be easier with a little something you can feel.

Bump dots are raised, adhesive markers that help people who are blind or have low vision identify buttons, settings, and other everyday items by touch.

They’re just one of the practical tools available in our Necessities Store at Vision Resources of Central Pennsylvania. Our team can help you explore options that fit your daily routine.

October is National Disability Employment Awareness Month! At Vision Resources of Central Pennsylvania, employment means opportunities to build confidence, develop skills, and gain greater independence.

Through VR Business Services, individuals with disabilities contribute to high-quality commercial services while building rewarding careers in supportive workplaces.

Opportunities may include custodial services, commercial floor care, production and assembly, and photo ID services. Part-time and full-time positions may be available in Cumberland, Dauphin, Franklin, and Perry counties.

Diane’s dedication to our MOVEMENT group and events, and Johnathan’s service as a board member through fundraising and committee work, make a lasting difference for Vision Resources and those we serve.

As National Guide Dog Month comes to a close, here’s a quick distinction: a guide dog is a service dog trained to help a person who is blind or has low vision navigate. Other service dogs may be trained for different disability-related tasks.

When you meet a working dog, give the team room. Please don’t pet, call to, or feed the dog, and keep your own dog at a respectful distance. If you’d like to help, speak to the handler and ask first.
