Photos from a Pet Urine Evaluation on some wall-to-wall carpet. A lot of times, there may be no visible stains and the backlight helps us be the detective.
Another tool we use during our Pet Urine Evaluation service is a moisture probe. This tool gives us the ability to detect moisture in the carpet all the way to backing and through to the padding. We’re evaluating 2 things essentially if it detects moisture. It could be physically wet from a recent accident or it could be like this carpet was - not physically wet to the touch but heavy urine salt contamination. The urine salts retain a level of moisture and that allows us to determine more of the severity of the situation.
Our analysis of the evaluation determines the processes that we need to use.
For this carpet we started by rinsing the carpet with an acidic rinse with our truckmount system. This is using the hot water extraction (HWE) method or often referred to as steam cleaning. This initial process helps breakdown and flush out the alkaline based urine salts.
Then we apply our Pet-friendly Treatment - heavily in this situation due to the amount of contamination. We apply this while using the black light as our intention is to “recreate” the urine accident and actually going a little wider around the affected area. Then the entire room is treated as well to be sure to not miss anything.
The most important part of the process is dwell time. Once the product is applied, the stopwatch starts. We need to let the product work for at least 45-60 minutes. During that dwell time we agitate the product into the carpet and Mae sure we don’t allow the product to dry.
We use many different products utilizing various cleaning technology. For this situation we use an enzymatic product that has billions of good bacteria. The good bacteria creates enzymes that eat the odor causing bacteria.
Sometimes we need to inject more product into the padding and use a sub-surface extraction/rinse tool. In this case we were able to saturate enough from the top-down.
Following the dwell time, we begin rinsing and extracting which is the final cleaning of the carpet. It’s really important to rinse the product out, neutralizing the carpet leaving it soft and residue free.
