Lubber grasshoppers are back. Here are the facts! Lubbers are native to Florida. They contain toxins which prevent most birds from eating them, except the loggerhead shrike. Numerous parasitoids and entomopathogens also infect and kill them. Gardeners have a choice of how to manage them in their home landscapes. Some choose to let them coexist in the landscape and others wage war on the lubber grasshoppers, killing them by hand squishing, insecticidal sprays or cutting them with scissors. If you’re going to use a spray to manage them, spray early in their lifecycle when the grasshoppers are still immature for best results. Termite Swarm Season is Here!
As we are at the beginning of termite swarm season here in central Florida, it is important to be aware of what to look for. Below is an illustration of the difference between a swarmer termite and an ant swarmer. Note the slender waist on the ant and the 2 pair of wings that are different sizes.
Generally, the first place you will find termite swarmers is near a window sill as they are attracted to light. Second, you may see small pin size holes in the wall or wood. These are exit holes, and they are where the swarmers come out of. If you see, or suspect you have termites, please give us a call at 352-394-7215 or email us at [email protected]. We will be glad to come out, identify, and assess any problems you may have. It is important to get a termite problem taken care of to stop the damage as soon as possible.

After an inspection of the property we found this colony of carpenter ants that were invading a customer's house. As Steven Higdon would say, "1 and done".
1 treatment give it 1 week and they haven't seen them inside their home since.

Annual jewgrass growing 10 feet up in an oak tree. Just below a bat box. And folks wonder why it is hard to control.
Coming into the fall, we are now looking at controlling w**ds that went crazy over the rainy summer. This in one that has exploded in severity over the last year. Unfortunately it is a grassy w**d and cannot be safely controlled in turfgrass. It is an annual and is typically short lived though it seeds profusely. This is why it has become so bad in the last several years here in Central Florida.
Roundup works well on it in landscape beds. It typically grows in shaded areas of the lawn where the turf is thin due to lack of sunlight and competing tree roots.
If you are interested in getting a jump on the w**d management applications now is the time to get started. Feel free to give us a call for a free lawn evaluation and lawn quote. 352-394-7215
