People often see the drone in the air…

What they don’t see is everything that happens before takeoff.

Every mission starts with planning:
📍 Evaluating the property
🌤️ Checking weather conditions
⚠️ Identifying obstacles and hazards
📋 Reviewing the application plan
🛡️ Completing the required safety and regulatory checks

The flight itself is only one part of the job.

Good preparation leads to safer operations, more accurate applications, and better results for the customer.

That’s the standard I bring to every project.

“Can an agricultural drone actually spray an odd-shaped field?”

Absolutely!

Unlike larger equipment that performs best in long, straight passes, drones can adapt to irregular field boundaries, narrow sections, obstacles, and changing terrain.

Whether it’s a vineyard tucked into a hillside, a marsh with winding levees, or a small treatment area surrounded by sensitive habitat, every mission is planned specifically for the property.

No two jobs are the same and that’s exactly why planning matters.

The goal isn’t just to spray.

It’s to apply the product safely, accurately, and where it’s needed most.

🚁❓Drone Myth vs. Fact

Myth: Drones are only useful for small fields.

Fact: Field size is only one piece of the equation.

When evaluating a project, I’m looking at much more than acreage:

✔️ Terrain
✔️ Accessibility
✔️ Crop or vegetation
✔️ Obstacles
✔️ Product requirements
✔️ Application timing
✔️ Weather conditions

I’ve worked on everything from vineyards and rice fields to wetlands and steep mountain terrain. Sometimes a drone is the perfect fit. Other times, another application method makes more sense.

The right tool isn’t determined by the size of the field, it’s determined by the job that needs to be done.

One of the biggest advantages of drone application isn’t speed…

It’s access.

Some properties have steep slopes.
Some have wetlands.
Some have rocky terrain, fences, irrigation infrastructure, or sensitive areas that make conventional equipment difficult to use.

Every property has its own challenges, and that’s why every project starts with evaluating the site, not just the equipment.

Sometimes the best solution is a drone.
Sometimes it isn’t.

The goal is always the same: find the safest, most effective approach for the property and the landowner.

One of the biggest lessons I’ve learned since starting Ag Drone Concepts is this:

Every property has a story.

A vineyard has different challenges than a rice field.

A duck club has different goals than a forest fuels reduction project.

That’s why I don’t believe in a one-size-fits-all approach to aerial application.

The first question isn’t, “Can we fly a drone here?”

It’s, “What is the landowner trying to accomplish?”

Once you understand the goal, you can determine the best way to get there.

Technology is important but listening to the customer is where every successful project begins.

One of the most valuable tools I have isn’t the drone…

It’s the job walk.

Walking a property before an application helps answer questions that aerial imagery alone can’t:

✔️ What obstacles are present?
✔️ How accessible is the site?
✔️ What is the condition of the vegetation?
✔️ Are there sensitive areas that need protection?
✔️ What is the safest and most effective application strategy?

The better you understand the property, the better the application.

Technology is a powerful tool but there’s still no substitute for boots on the ground.

🚁 Every flight starts with a decision.

One of the biggest misconceptions about aerial application is that the hard part is flying the drone.

In reality, the hard part is deciding how the job should be done.

Before a single battery is installed, I’m asking questions like:

• What is the target species?
• What stage of growth is it in?
• What product is being applied?
• What weather conditions are expected?
• What droplet size and application volume will provide the best result?
• Are there sensitive areas or obstacles nearby?

The drone is simply the delivery platform.

Success comes from planning, preparation, and making informed decisions before takeoff.

That’s the standard I strive for on every job.
