🌳🚧 TUESDAY TIPS WITH JIMMY & DRAKE! 🏠🐿️

Yesterday we talked about the Wildlife Highway around your home…

Today, Jimmy & Drake are here with a few tips for causing some TRAFFIC DELAYS. 😂🚫

🌳 Trim those branches!
Keep tree limbs from hanging directly over or touching your roof whenever safely possible. A convenient branch can make getting onto your home a whole lot easier for a talented climber.

🏡 Check your roofline!
Take a look at soffits, fascia, vents and roof edges for loose or damaged areas. Getting onto the roof is one thing — finding an easy opening is what can turn a visitor into a tenant.

🚧 Don't forget fences & nearby structures!
Fences, sheds, decks and other structures can become part of the route wildlife uses to navigate your property.

🌿 Keep vegetation under control!
Thick vines, shrubs and vegetation against the house can provide cover and additional climbing opportunities.

👀 Look at your house like a critter would!
Instead of only looking for holes at ground level, look UP. Ask yourself:

“If I could climb like a squirrel or raccoon…how would I get onto this house?”

You might be surprised by what you notice!

🌳🐿️ MORE YA KNOW MONDAY! 🦝🏠

That tree branch might be a WILDLIFE HIGHWAY! 🚧

When you look at an overhanging tree branch, fence line or roof edge, you probably just see part of your yard.

Wildlife may see an entire transportation system. 😂

🐿️ Squirrels are excellent climbers and can use nearby trees and branches to reach roofs, gutters and other elevated areas.

🦝 Raccoons are surprisingly talented climbers and may use trees, fences, decks and other structures to navigate around a property.

🐭 Small critters can take advantage of connected structures, vegetation and tiny access points to get places you'd never expect.

And once they're on the roof? Gutters, rooflines, soffits, vents and other vulnerable areas are suddenly within reach.

Think of it like a wildlife interstate:

🌳 Tree branch = entrance ramp
🏠 Roofline = highway
🕳️ Vulnerable opening = EXIT HERE: FREE ROOM & BOARD

Keeping branches trimmed away from your roof and paying attention to the "travel routes" around your home can help make your property a little less convenient for unwanted visitors.

🪤 TUESDAY TIPS WITH JIMMY & DRAKE! 🦝

Today’s Tip: Don’t Mess With the Trap!

So, you’ve hired a wildlife professional, they’ve placed traps around your property…and now you’re wondering, “Why in the world did they put THAT there?” 😂

Trust us—there’s usually a reason!

Professional trap placement is based on things like the animal’s travel patterns, entry points, available cover, food sources, and good old-fashioned wildlife behavior. Moving a trap even a few feet can sometimes mean the difference between success and an animal walking right past it.

So once your traps are set:

🪤 Don’t move or reposition them. Even if another spot looks better to you, give your technician a call first.

🍕 Don’t add your own bait or food. More bait doesn’t necessarily mean better results and can actually attract other animals we aren’t trying to catch.

🐕 Keep pets and children away. Give traps plenty of space and never allow anyone to poke, shake, open, or play around them.

🦝 If something is caught, DON’T try to release it yourself! A frightened wild animal can be extremely unpredictable. Call your wildlife professional and let them handle it safely.

Let’s Talk Humane Wildlife Trapping!

When you hear that a wildlife company is setting traps, it can sound a little scary—but professional wildlife trapping isn’t about hurting animals. Humane trapping is about safely resolving a conflict while treating the animal with respect.

At ACES Wildlife Solutions, humane wildlife control means:

🪤 Using species-appropriate equipment. Different animals require different traps, techniques, and placement. There’s no “one trap fits all” approach.

👀 Being mindful of the animal’s welfare. Proper trap placement and monitoring help minimize unnecessary stress and reduce the chance of injury.

🦝 Knowing WHAT you’re trapping. A professional should understand the species, its behavior, and what time of year it is—especially when babies may be involved. Removing a mother without realizing young are present can create an entirely new problem inside your home!

🏠 Finding the reason the animal is there. Trapping alone usually isn’t the whole solution. We look for entry points, food sources, shelter, and other conditions that attracted the animal in the first place.

🔨 Preventing the problem from happening again. Whenever possible, exclusion and repairs are an important part of wildlife management. Removing one animal doesn’t help much if the next one can walk right through the same hole!

And remember: humane doesn’t mean DIY. Wildlife can bite, scratch, carry diseases and parasites, and behave unpredictably when frightened or confined. In Tennessee, nuisance wildlife control is also regulated, which is another reason to make sure you’re working with a properly permitted professional.

Our goal at ACES isn’t simply to “catch something.” It’s to determine what’s happening, why it’s happening, and the safest and most humane way to solve it.
