Today, September 10 is the statistical peak of hurricane season, but this year's season looks different, and here's why: El Niño.

El Niño showed up in June and it's been getting stronger every month. It puts wind shear over the Atlantic that tears storms apart before they get organized. That's why NOAA is calling for a below-normal season, 7 to 13 named storms instead of the usual 14. Good news, right? Mostly. But here's the part we tell every client: it only takes one. Some of the worst storms in history hit in "quiet" years. We stay ready either way.

It's National Dog Day and in our world, some dogs are coworkers.

Search and rescue K9s work the same disasters our camps support. They deploy into rubble and floodwater, work brutal hours, and ask for nothing but a tennis ball at the end of a shift. Absolute heroes.

Also shoutout to the shop dogs and porch dogs who supervise from a distance and especially our Hank who greets every customer with a smile.

Chad McMichael, VP of Global Disaster Logistics, breaks down why single-source control is the difference between a camp running by noon and one still stuck in vendor arguments at midnight. In the 2024 Hurricane Helene response, GDL stood up four camps for 5,000 personnel in under 36 hours because one crew owned the entire sequence, from start to finish.
