The 2026 WASDA Washington Summit delivered real momentum for our industry. With expert guidance from our advocacy partner Van Scoyoc Associates (VSA), members were thoroughly prepared to engage on Capitol Hill and clearly communicate the value of water and sewer distribution to our nation’s infrastructure.

Our advocacy focused on three priorities critical to your business:
• Securing sustainable funding for water and sewer projects
• Advancing meaningful permitting reform to cut delays and uncertainty
• Strengthening workforce development to build and retain skilled talent

The impact doesn’t end in Washington. After the Summit, WASDA members host policymakers at their own facilities—showing firsthand the projects, people, and innovations that keep America’s water infrastructure running.

If you want a stronger voice in the policies that shape your work, join the WASDA Advocacy Committee and help drive change for our entire industry: https://www.wasda.com/governmentrelations

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has announced more than $13 million in new Emerging Contaminants in Small or Disadvantaged Communities (EC-SDC) grant funding to address PFAS and other emerging contaminants in Indiana communities that need it most. This investment is a critical step toward reducing harmful exposure, protecting public health, and advancing long-term solutions for clean, safe drinking water.

For WASDA we will continue to advocate for robust federal and state partnerships that prioritize infrastructure upgrades and safeguard water quality.

WASDA member A.Y. McDonald Mfg. Co. recently welcomed Wisconsin State Representative Travis Tranel and Congressman Tom Tiffany (WI-07) for a visit and discussion on today’s waterworks challenges and opportunities.

Engaging directly with policymakers helps elevate the critical role our industry plays in public health, infrastructure, and local economies. We look forward to more stories from our members with the representatives who can help advocate for our industry.

Congrats to WASDA member Christy Maloney for being honored with the 2026 Alice A. Martin Woman of the Year Award by the American Supply Association (ASA). Christy's career reflects a steady progression through leadership roles, a commitment to professional development, and a consistent focus on supporting others in the PHCP-PVF industry.

The honor recognizes individuals who have made a meaningful impact on the industry while advancing opportunities for women across the channel. Christy, vice president at Coburn Supply, embodies both.

At WASDA, strengthening the water infrastructure workforce is one of our top critical issues. Our industry is confronting a looming talent crisis, with an estimated one-third to one-half of today’s waterworks professionals eligible to retire within the next decade. Addressing workforce shortages and ensuring effective training for the next generation is essential to protecting public health, economic growth, and resilient water systems.

The U.S. Department of Education’s new final rule implementing the Workforce Pell Grant program—created under the Working Families Tax Cuts Act—is a critical step forward. Beginning July 1, 2026, students will be able to use Pell Grants for high-quality, short-term education and training programs that lead to high-skill, high-wage, in-demand jobs, including careers in water infrastructure. This policy will help more Americans quickly prepare for essential roles while minimizing student debt and strengthening the nation’s talent pipeline.

Across the U.S., water infrastructure is aging fast—partly because water has been taken for granted and consistently undervalued.

Facilities managers are in a unique position to change that by prioritizing water and extending the life of existing systems.

Six key reasons our water systems are under pressure:
🚰 Weak and uncoordinated governance
🚰 Gaps in how infrastructure is financed
🚰 Limited skills and training for the workforce
🚰 Inadequate pathways to bring innovations to market
🚰 Reactive rather than proactive management
🚰 Underrecognized market value of water infrastructure

🚨BREAKING NEWS🚨

The EPA has issued new guidance for water utilities on identifying and managing lead service lines under the Lead and Copper Rule Improvements.

These added “flexibilities” are intended to help utilities meet applicable requirements. Critics warn this could slow full lead pipe replacement.

What do you think this will mean for our industry?

Marshall, TX is facing serious challenges with its aging water system. Much of the infrastructure, including the water treatment center built in the 1950s, is decades past its intended lifespan.

The result: frequent water main breaks and ongoing disruptions, even as the community works hard to make repairs. Limited funding and long timelines mean these fixes can’t happen fast enough.

That’s why WASDA makes funding for critical water projects a top priority—and supports strengthening key federal programs like the EPA State Revolving Funds and WIFIA to help communities like Marshall address urgent water needs.
