Quick reset:

🚨 Small Business Scam Warning 🚨

White Fern Cleaning Company almost fell victim to a potential scam today, and we wanted to share what happened because other small service businesses may encounter something similar.
We were contacted about recurring cleaning services for a property. The communication initially seemed normal, but several things started to feel off. The biggest red flag came when the potential client began discussing payment by check and asked which bank we use to deposit our checks.
That is when we stopped and took a step back.
A few reminders for fellow service businesses:

Don’t provide your banking information to a client.

Be cautious when someone wants to pay by check before services are performed.

Never accept an overpayment and send money back.

Verify who you’re actually dealing with, especially when the contact information doesn’t match the publicly listed information for a property or business. If something doesn’t feel right, walk away.

We’re sharing this because small businesses work hard for every dollar, and unfortunately, scammers know that. Trust your gut, verify before proceeding, and don’t let the pressure to make a sale override your instincts.

Thankfully, we caught the red flags before providing any services or financial information.
