Owner Envisions A ‘Symphony’ Effect

Franchise Owner Envisions ‘SERVPRO SYMPHONY’

Jimmy Dobson, SERVPRO franchise owner is the undoubtable leader of the team at SERVPRO of Southern Trumbull County. ‘Jimmy D,’ as he is fondly called, agreed to share his views on the restoration business and where the industry is headed.

His vision is one that sees his departments interact, collaborate and work seamlessly with each other to create a ‘symphonic’ effect which orchestrates the greatest outcomes for his customers. Dobson has set high expectations for his employees and himself in order to achieve the growth and stability he desires for his employees and their families. He lives in the community he serves and takes his role as a business leader and the goal of community prosperity very seriously. He is driven everyday by his desire for his franchise to be the very best restoration company it can be.

Why did you decide upon a cleaning/restoration business? “I didn’t, it came to me. I was working for my father’s swimming pool company in Florida in 1978 and my brother Tommy bought a cleaning company. So, I returned home in 1981 to work with my brother and planned on doing that for a short time. But as it turned out, I really liked it. I really enjoyed cleaning. I would sell the accounts during the day and do the cleaning at night. When my brother decided to get out of the business, I decided to stay in. That was my decision. I loved the cleaning business. There’s just something in my personality that loves to put things in order. From 1984 on, we were really doing well. But soon my customers were going out of business left and right due a collapse of the local economy. From Copper Weld Steel to Republic Steel closing, and KMART filing bankruptcy but staying open, the cleaning business was dwindling rapidly. It became harder to make money and the margins were disappearing. I bought a carpet cleaning business soon after and everything just evolved from there.”
