It's been a good run. We've had 9 Ga***rd Highland Games, and we've been proud of them all. We wanted to have something that was first and foremost for the throwers, and give them a place to have a good competition, and have people see what we do, and we think we accomplished that.

That's why it's with some sadness that we have to say that the Ga***rd Highland Games are done. You've already seen that Jason Cherry has opted to retire as AD, and I have moved from Ga***rd to Williamsburg. We've certainly had a lot of people help us with the games, sponsors, judges, volunteers, scorekeepers, and other supporters, but Jason and I were the primary organizers, and neither of us will be continuing in that role, hence the discontinuation of the GHG. Thank you to all the throwers, fans, helpers, judges, sponsors, and friends who helped along the way, and we wish you the best in 2019.

Sincerely,

Dale

Here's a basic schedule for our Ga***rd Highland Games weekend.
Friday night, 6/15, meet at the Alpine Tavern at 6:30 in downtown Ga***rd for food and catching up with old friends
Saturday morning, 6/16, all classes start throwing at 10am. The field will be open at 7am for set up, warm up, and general getting ready.
The classes will rotate through the events all day.
Wrap up and awards are anticipated about 4:00 - 4:30 on the field. Our tradition is that the first place throwers choose their awards first, based on performance, and then the 2nd-places choose, and then thirds. For the 2nd year our awards are some sweet war hammers. Pics to follow.
Saturday night, 6pm (or whenever you get showered and cleaned up) meet at the Buffalo Wild Wings for dinner and to recount the day's throws.
Anyone who can help either with set up Saturday morning or Saturday afternoon will be very much appreciated.
And, thank you very much to our sponsors again this year, Buffalo Wild Wings (lunch), Otsego County Sportsplex (the venue), Ga***rd Area Chamber & Tourism Bureau (financial), and Spartan Septic (porto-johns).

Only 9 days to go until the Ga***rd Highland Games. We will have some new guests this year as we are expecting representatives from Clan Urban to join us. Come and learn about your Scottish heritage!

Our plan is set for Friday night's gathering ahead of the Ga***rd Highland Games. We will be meeting, in kilts, at the Alpine Tavern on S. Otsego in Ga***rd for dinner and socializing, starting at 6:30. Alpine has hosted us for several years now and has a great outdoor space where we can catch up after a long off-season with our friends. So, if you're in town the night before the games, plan on joining us for the evening at the Alpine Tavern.

The 2018 Ga***rd Highland Games will once again be held at the Otsego County Sportsplex. The Sportsplex has been a great host of our event for our past competitions, with a perfect blend of room, accessibility, and easy viewing for our fans, and they have offered the same for this year, so we'll be back! Thank you to Director Bill Michaels for supporting us.

Things are coming together for the annual Ga***rd Highland Games, which will be here in just a few weeks, June 16th. We are very happy to announce again that BDubs, aka Buffalo Wild Wings, will be supplying our lunch during the competition for throwers, judges, scorekeepers, and volunteer helpers. Our friends Rich and Russ have hooked us up for the past few years, and they'll be doing it again. Some say it's one of the best parts of the day!

Then, it will get even better as our group will spend Saturday evening reliving the day's events at BDubs for the after party. We did that in 2017, and had a great time eating wings, drinking drinks, and debating the caber judging (which is in itself an event). So, again this year we will get together at the Ga***rd Buffalo Wild Wings for dinner after the games, and a shower. See you there!

The 2018, 10th annual Ga***rd Highland Games will be Saturday, June 16th, in Ga***rd. More details to follow. We are expecting the biggest, best competition yet! See you there.

And a big thank you also to Roman who did our announcing yesterday, and is a big hit with throwers and fans alike.

The results of the 2017 Ga***rd Highland Games are posted on NASGA. Thank you to all of the helpers we had this year, our judges, and especially our throwers. It's official! We had the top Mens Am, top Womens Am, three of the top 10 Womens Ams, the #3 Mens B, and the #6 Mens Master, all at our games way up north! On top of that, we had 2 previous world champs, and 4 throwers headed to next week's Masters World Championships. What a field!
Also, we like to thank our sponsors for helping us this weekend.
BDubs (the food was great!), Ga***rd Chamber & Tourism, Spartan Septic & Sewer (it's important!), the Otsego County Sportsplex for hosting us, and The Eagle 101.5 for getting the word out about our event. Thank you all!

Part 1 of the Wings Over Northern Michigan airshow was last night, and fantastic. We'll get to see a lot of it this year even though we won't be at the airport, as we'll be just off the end of the runway. Should be fun.
Also, remember the after-party at BDubs Saturday evening. After awards, a quick tear down, and shower, we'll meet there. And, for those not done socializing, Dale & Laura will host the after-after party at their house Saturday night on the patio. See you all soon!

06/09/2017

As we've already posted, this year's GHG will not be in conjunction with the Wings Over Northern Michigan airshow, basically because they ran out of room with all of the things they have coming this year, including the Canadians 9-jet team, and the USAF and Navy. The newest commit is a C-17 Globemaster cargo plane, which is big enough to throw caber inside. Although we won't be on the grounds, the Sportsplex field is about .5 miles from the end of the runway, and so we're going to have a great spot to see the planes from anyhow. It will be fun, and if you're able to stay, get a ticket and see the airshow up close Sunday.

06/07/2017

And if that's not enough, we'll also get together Saturday night, post throwing, at our sponsor's place, Buffalo Wild Wings, for our after party. This is our way of thanking BDubs for taking such good care of us for lunch both last year and this year. BDubs will reserve the patio for us, and we will be able to relax after a day of competition, with possibly some special, celtic beverages, and rehash the day's glories. So, thanks to Ryan and the crew at Buffalo Wild Wings, and we'll see them Saturday night, June 17th.
