Your home's water shutoff location is the difference between towels cleaning up water and a full home restoration because of mold and water damage. This is the fastest way to mitigate water damage and save your home from bigger issues.

Do not wait for an emergency to look for it.

Where to find your main valve right now:

Basement or Crawl Space: Look on the wall facing the street.
Garage or Utility Closet: Check near the water heater or laundry area.
Outside: Look for a plastic or concrete meter box near the curb.

Pro Tip: Once you find it, wrap it in bright colored tape. Make sure everyone in your household knows exactly where it is

Did you know wipes labeled flushable do not break down the way toilet paper does?

They stay intact, snag on any rough spot in the line, and collect grease until the whole thing plugs. Same story with paper towels, dental floss, and cotton swabs.

Homeowner tip: put a few drops of food coloring in your toilet tank, then wait 20 minutes without flushing. If color shows up in the bowl, your flapper is leaking.

A silent running toilet can waste hundreds of gallons a day and never make a noise you would notice. You find out when the bill shows up.

Did you know liquid drain cleaner can do more damage than the clog?

It creates heat, sits in one spot, and works on older ABS, PVC joints, and metal traps while it waits. If it does not clear the line, that caustic mix is still sitting in there when someone has to open the trap.

A slow drain that keeps coming back is usually a slope or venting problem, not a soap clog. DM us before you pour. Estimates are free.

Did you know a tank water heater averages 8 to 12 years, and hard water pushes it toward the short end?

Warning signs: rusty hot water, water pooling at the base, taking longer to recover, or a manufacture date sticker past ten years old. Replacing on purpose costs a lot less than replacing after it dumps 50 gallons on your floor.

Did you know: if your home was built between roughly 1978 and 1995, it may have polybutylene water lines. Look for gray, cream, or blue flexible plastic pipe near the water heater or under sinks.

Polybutylene was discontinued because it gets brittle and fails, often with no warning. A repipe done on your schedule is a very different experience than one done at 2 a.m.

Homeowner tip that costs nothing: find your main water shutoff today, before you need it.

Usually in the garage, on a basement wall, or in a crawlspace near where the line enters the house. Turn it a half turn to make sure it is not seized, then show everyone who lives there. Thirty seconds now can save thousands in water damage later.

Homeowner tip: flush your water heater once a year.

In hard water country, sediment piles up on the bottom of the tank, and the burner has to heat through that layer before it heats your water. Higher gas bill, slower recovery, shorter tank life. Rumbling or popping from the tank is sediment talking.
