Winter is here..
Take Control!
🌊 **Attention Swim World Pools Community!** 🌊
Brrr...❄️ It's going to be extremely cold the next several days. Here are some helpful hints to keep your pool protected:

-Freeze protection will flip actuators back and forth to keep water moving causing spas to empty, if this occurs, please turn on the spill way and this will fill the spa!

Here are some housekeeping tips to ensure your pool and home remain in tip-top shape during the freeze:
1️⃣ **Keep the Water Moving**: As long as the water in the plumbing is flowing, it won't freeze. Ensure there are no dead spots in circulation. If you haven't scheduled a pool closing yet, now's a good time to think about it! However, this first freeze shouldn’t be a major concern.
2️⃣ **Garden Hose Care**: Remember to disconnect your garden hoses from outdoor spigots. Make sure you empty them of water to prevent any freezing and potential damage.
3️⃣ **Protect Your Home**: It’s that time of the year to close off your crawl space vents. This simple step can keep the cold air out and help protect your home's foundational spaces.
Stay warm and cozy! 🍂 If you have any concerns or need assistance, don’t hesitate to reach out. Your pool's safety and your peace of mind are our top priorities!

Generator Safety for In Ground Pool Equipment During Power Outages

Many in ground pool systems use 240-volt (220V) electrical equipment.

During a power outage, running pool equipment on a generator must be done correctly to avoid serious safety hazards, including electrical backfeeding.

What Is Backfeeding? Backfeeding occurs when electricity from a generator flows backward into utility power lines. This can energize power lines that utility workers believe are de-energized, creating a severe risk of electrocution.

Why a 240V Generator Is Required

Most in ground pool equipment operates on 240 volts, including filter pumps, variable-speed pumps, heat pumps, and electric heaters. A standard 120V generator is typically not sufficient to operate this equipment.

About 'Cheater Plugs'

A 'cheater plug' is commonly a male-to-male power cord used to connect a generator directly to a household outlet (often a dryer outlet). This method is dangerous and not code-compliant unless the home is fully disconnected from the electrical grid.

Why the Main Breaker Must Be Turned Off

Turning off the main breaker disconnects the home from utility power and helps prevent backfeeding. However, main breakers can fail or be accidentally turned back on, which is why this method alone is not considered a reliable or safe solution.

The Correct and Safe Solution
• Use a properly sized 240V generator.
• Install a transfer switch or an interlock kit.
• These devices physically prevent generator power and utility power from being on at the same time.
• They are code-compliant, safer, and reduce liability risks.

Important Notes for Pool Owners

In many cases, pool systems can safely sit for 24–72 hours without circulation during cold weather if lines are below the frost line, equipment is properly drained, and valves are opened. A generator is helpful, but not always immediately required. Always consult a licensed electrician before attempting to power pool equipment with a generator. Improper setups can result in injury, property damage, or death.

📣 WATER SAFETY MATTERS! 🛟

At Swim World Pools, we don’t just build pools—we help build safer backyards. Your family’s safety is at the heart of everything we do.

Here are 5 essential water safety tips we follow and encourage every pool family to practice:

🔹 1. Always Supervise Children

Designate a Water Watcher when kids are in or near the pool—no distractions, just focused eyes on the water.

🔹 2. Enroll Kids in Swim Lessons Early

Studies show that formal swim lessons can reduce drowning risk by up to 88% for children ages 1–4.

🔹 3. Install an Automatic Safety Cover

A high-quality automatic cover like Coverstar helps prevent accidents and keeps kids, pets, and wildlife out of the pool when not in use.

🔷 These covers can be added to both new AND existing pools. It’s never too late to add a layer of protection and peace of mind.

🔹 4. Practice Smart Pool Rules

Make sure your entire household knows the basics—never swim alone, and always enter feet first.

🔹 5. Be Emergency-Ready

Keep a life ring, first aid kit, and emergency contacts near your pool—and know what to do in case of an emergency.

💙 At Swim World Pools, safety is so important to us that we provide CPR training for every family that gets a new pool.

Our trusted partner, First Care CPR, makes it simple—they can even come to you!

Don’t Sweat the Snow on Your Pool Cover! ❄️

Winter is here, and with it, snow might be piling up on your pool cover—but no need to worry! Your safety cover or automatic pool cover is built to handle this. Here’s what you need to know:

1️⃣ Snow Accumulation is Okay: Your pool cover is designed to support the weight of snow. It’s nothing to stress about!

2️⃣ When Temps Rise: As the snow melts, place a cover pump on the cover to remove the water. This prevents excess weight and helps maintain the cover’s integrity.

3️⃣ Monitor the Pump:
• Check the pump to ensure it’s not running continuously for too long.
• If there’s a hole in the cover, the pump might start pulling water from the pool. Inspect for damage to avoid accidentally draining your pool!

4️⃣ Disconnect Hoses: Don’t forget to disconnect any garden hoses from your house spigots to prevent freezing and damage.

💧 If Your Pool Is Closed and Not Covered: Simply pump the water level down to the bottom of the skimmers to protect your pool during the winter months.

If you have any questions or need assistance, give us a call at 615-452-POOL (7665). We’re here to help you enjoy a worry-free winter! 🏊‍♀️❄️
