Absolutely!

I want to clarify something about pricing by square footage, because there seems to be some confusion.

Yes two homes can both be 1,600 sq ft and be completely different in terms of time, effort, and level of buildup. One may be well-maintained and fairly clean, while another may have heavy buildup, pet hair, or long gaps between cleanings. That’s exactly why square-foot pricing is often shown as a range.

• The lower end of the range is for cleaner, well-maintained homes
• The higher end accounts for heavier buildup, pet hair, and more detailed work

This is not a rigid pricing rule it’s simply a general guideline to help people who are learning how to price their services. Not everyone knows where to start, and this gives them a reference point.

That said, there are absolutely times when this pricing structure doesn’t make sense, and that’s okay. This is your business, and you should always adjust pricing based on what works best for you.

For example, there are plenty of times I lower my rates because I can tell the home will take less time, is simpler, or is already well maintained. Pricing should reflect the actual scope of work not just the number on paper.

You can also choose to charge hourly, and that is completely valid if it works for your business. Just keep in mind that hourly pricing can sometimes lead to clients watching the clock more closely or questioning time spent but again, if that works for you, that’s perfectly fine.

This is meant to educate and offer perspective, not dictate how anyone should price their services. Take what’s helpful, adapt it to your area and business model, and leave the rest.
