A friendly reminder! Especially if you have children and pets. August to early October, depending on where you live, is the time of year when copperheads are born. Baby copperheads are born with fully functional venom and a greenish-yellow tail tip, which they use to lure prey. The babies will retain the greenish-yellow tip on their tails for about a year. A mother snake generally gives birth to about 8-10 of these creatures, so if you find one, chances are there are others around. These snakes are generally not aggressive, but will bite if you're unlucky enough to touch or step on one, or if they feel threatened. Don't go under bushes, around rocks, or even flower pots without looking first. They like damp places, so be careful, in your homes crawl space, around children's toys left outside and dog house/dishes!
