24" fence for a dog. Fold-backs included and going with the extra cost of custom height came in $100 less than standard fence with a gate.

I love helping people "not ruin" their backyard with a fence. I push back at times... Mostly when I know that people will be miserable with a particular design. For example, maybe folks only want to fence in a small patio...but the moment they want to enjoy any part of their yard with their grandchildren or dog, they can't, because they've gone outside of the protected area.

Invest in getting the job done right the first time... And then bask in relaxation!

After losing a dog to drowning, these folks were stressed. But they also have a small backyard and a standard fence would overpower their patio.
The answer was paying extra for a custom height fence (30 inches tall). Note: it's only about $4/foot to get a custom height since we simply pass through the cost to customers. For these folks it was cheaper than a standard fence with a gate, so they came out ahead!
We also dropped in a temporary standard 4 foot fence while the Pool Guard folks in Florida made the custom fence.
This way, they got to breathe more easily right away, and were also delighted with the shorter fence when it came.

Nobody's excited about getting a fence, so the temptation is to "just get the basic". Sure, I get that. And some companies won't say a word and will install the cheapest quality fence and collect a check. But you'll grind your teeth every time you try to enjoy your backyard. That's not how we work so Valley Pool Guard is not for everyone. We think that the best way to reduce your cost is to reduce how much space your fence takes up. The space you gain is space you get to enjoy all winter and whenever you aren't in the pool. It's more space when carrying groceries in from the garage or carrying a chair from the yard to the patio... Our goal is to make you forget you even have a fence... Right up to the point where you look around and ask "hey! Where's the baby?"

A quick word about fence height. Most people choose 4 foot fences.
The other common option is 5 foot, required for daycare, foster care/adoption, and when there's no fence at all on the property.
Here's a photo of a 5 foot fence and a 4 foot fence. Big difference if you're short like me.
Now... Why did they need a 5 foot fence? 2 reasons... The first is that there was no fence behind me, so people could walk straight in from the alley. They had plans to get a fence built, but were also juggling inspections. We drilled the holes, temporarily put in the 5 foot and switched it to 4 foot after a week or so...
Reason 2 is that there are 4 inch holes in the back wall... Big enough for a toehold for kids. And here's the unfortunate truth... There's a lot of inconsistency between inspectors. They are allowed to use discretion.
Sometimes things go in your favor... Other times everything is by the book.
