You never know what's going on with a dryer vent. The duct was a little too long, so this installer folded it in. I repaired the duct with a new piece.
Dryer venting is typically the biggest fire hazard in a home. If yours is not performing well, it is worth a safety inspection and cleaning.

The middle inserts in eave bath vents eventually become brittle and fall out. Left open, birds and wasps may nest. I only use the most durable replacement vent hoods.

The first photo shows how this metal vent hood is only about half the needed size for adequate air flow.

The second photo is the owner's cat making sure all is clear.

With an AC unit below, it was better to use a louvered design.

If buying a new home, make sure your inspector checks out the dryer vent. Here the installer compressed the vent to fit around a plumbing line instead doing it right with two elbows. The result was a line that completely clogged.

It is important to not compress a dryer vent transition hose, which restricts airflow. It is also important to have a fire safe hose.

Here is a cleaning 3 months after another service operated by former firemen. They took a short cut, cleaning just from the outside, and did not remove the transition hose as needed. It's Time always does a thorough job and all work is guaranteed.

What's in Your Dryer Vent? A Styrofoam Cup?
This week a client called because they smelled their dryer burning. It turns out that some contractor stuck a styrofoam cup in the vent to prevent birds from getting in it until someone else installed an exterior hood. But apparently the cup blew down the line and no one ever knew it.
