I want to understand how they think.

That's why I use situational questions

And tells candidates there aren't necessarily right or wrong answers.

The goal is to discover their reasoning.

Sometimes the way someone explains their decision

Tells you more than the decision itself.

I’m not only listening to answers.

I’m observing interactions.

Who listens?

Who dominates?

Who encourages others?

Who interrupts?

Who naturally takes responsibility?

Who seems uncomfortable working with others?

These little behaviors can reveal a lot about someone's personality.

Why?

Because past experience

Doesn't always tell you how someone will behave in a future situation.

Situational questions can reveal judgment,

Integrity, communication, problem-solving, and personality.

You're not just asking what they know.

You're learning how they think.

Instead of sitting across a desk asking predictable questions,

I create a relaxed environment with several candidates.

Then I watch

How do they interact?

How do they communicate?

How do they respond to others?

Sometimes what happens between questions tells you more than the answers themselves.

But every person sees life through their own experiences, beliefs, personality, and history.

Your perspective can be valid without being complete.

That's why listening matters.
