A beautiful tree can turn into a BIG septic problem.

On this job, tree roots had grown into the service tank and clogged the pipe, eventually causing the system to back up into the home.

It’s an important reminder to be careful about what you plant around your septic system. Avoid planting trees or traditional garden beds near your tank, lines, or drain field. Roots naturally seek moisture and can work their way into septic components.

Want a garden nearby? Consider a raised bed positioned safely away from septic components rather than allowing deep roots to grow around the system.

Think your garbage disposal makes food disappear? This is where it actually goes. 👀

Your disposal may grind food into smaller pieces, but it doesn’t make it disappear. Those food particles travel straight into your septic system, adding extra solids that your tank then has to handle.

Over time, excessive food waste can mean more buildup, more frequent pumping, and more stress on your septic system.

Our advice? Your septic tank is not a trash can. Scrape food into the garbage before washing those plates—even if you have a disposal.
