This one was a butt kicker!
Not because the process isn’t “simple” but because if I ever take a dime from anyone I want to get the best results I can.
This 92 OBS Silverado belongs to my good friends Dan and Sheila, I’ve been taking care of their rides for quite a while.
In fact - the very first detail I did out of this new section of shop I call home was on Sheila’s bike. Long before I filled the place with miscellaneous bu****it 😅
Anyways, Dan wanted the truck to shine some more, and initially asked about getting it buffed.
This ole gal had a lot and I mean a LOT of clear coat failure, but I’d heard about a product I always wanted to try; Poppy’s Patina.
We talked about it, they watched some videos, and they decided to give me a chance at applying it.
Overall, it went well.
However, it is much more temperature and humidity sensitive than a ceramic coat, as it’s actually a wipe on clear coat.
I did one coat, wasn’t happy.
Scuffed the whole thing down and applied a second, things went well.
Then I tried to be a hero.
I was hitting the poppy’s with some high grit sand paper to smooth the finish and improve the gloss, and I burnt through my work.
So back to square one, I let Sheila know and they gave me nothing but time to remedy that and dial it in, emptied the cans on that last section.
Cleaned up the lights, cleaned up the chrome and laid a fresh coat on that burnt area and left it the hell alone.
Does it look like a re-spray? No
Does it cost as much as one? Also, no.
What they’ve got now is a truck that’s protected in time, Shiney as hell, and slicker than a fish.
When they finally saw the final product this evening they were both stoked, that make the tennis elbow worth it.
So is Poppy’s Patina for everyone? Probably not.
But if you still run after your ole lady after she purdies up, that loyal kinda fellow or fellet that’s gonna ride with them til the wheels fall off; it may just be.
