BED BUGS!!! The pest of the week!
Bed bugs are parasites that preferentially feed on humans. If people aren't available, they instead will feed on other warm-blooded animals (birds, rodents, bats, pets.)

They love to hide in seams of fabric, furniture and mattresses and can detect a warm-blooded host with the sensors on their antennas (by the exhalation of our breath which contains Co2.)

Aside from these senses, it is believed that bed bugs have a compound eye structure that allows them to see in black and white. Their eyes let them pick up the heat signature emitted by the body. Since the heat signature of a sleeping body is warmer in the middle area, you will most likely find more bed bug bites on your arms, torso and legs than on the fingers and toes.

Although small in size, bed bugs can quickly reproduce and survive for months without feeding, allowing undetected infestations to rapidly grow. Below is a display of their life cycle.

Though their eyes are not able to immediately create a full picture, they can see and sense very well that they are able to do what they are best at – finding you and feeding on you……

PEST OF THE WEEK! The Black widow.
Black widow spiders are fairly common in Northern AZ. Distinguishable by their red or slightly brown "hour glass" on their undersides, black widows produce a venom that can be toxic to large vertebrates, including humans.
Did you know that the female bite is not only harmful to humans? Males will often investigate a female widow to see if she has eaten recently before choosing her as his mate out of fear of being eaten!
You will mostly find the black widow living near the ground, in a dark warm area or in holes created by other insects and animals.
