Oakland County health officials are encouraging residents to vaccinate their pets after a skunk bit someone late last week and eventually tested positive for rabies.

Not long ago I warned about the changing temps and the amount of skunk activity increasing due to their mating season starting soon. Well sure enough we’ve seen a big kick in skunk calls! 3 skunks over 3 days with tracks indicating at least one more out of this customers yard! And we caught a pair in a single trap!

Well it’s official! With the bump in temp and the more mild weather seemingly tagging along with it, skunks are on the move! We are about beginning of mating season, you’re going to start seeing and smelling a lot more of these stinkers running around, and 2-3 months from now we will be having little ones running around along side of their parents. Be on the look out! If they’ve made your home their home give us a call and we can help you evict them!

As the snow keeps slowly melting we will start and continue to see signs of moles appearing. Small random mounds of dirt or large protruding tunnel systems. Screech owl!!! Customer called and said he had an owl fly out of the fireplace, I said no problem we can be out there in 20min! Found this guy in the back room flying around trying to find a way out. Luckily scooped it up before it had a chance to injure itself. What a cool bird and amazing experience.

Well this was a first for me, however it is very common. I got called out for scratching noises and “droppings” from a bathroom vent pipe. For me that’s a common occurrence especially now that it’s getting cold, rodents birds and bats finding warmth from the cold happens all the time! This time the noise ended up being the bathroom exhaust fan shorting out, the “droppings” were melted plastic from the fan and the exhaust pipe got so hot the insulation began to burn. Luckily it was caught in time and the firefighters were able to take over and make sure this customers home was safe! Stay aware, and always investigate your noises! Hearing noises and need a hand give us a call and we will find and manage those critters for you!
