This morning was a reminder none of us expect but all of us need.
I was on my way to work, on bluetooth with another cleaning business owner catching up, hash brown and sweet tea from McDonald’s sitting next to me… just a normal start to the day.
Then in a split second, everything changed.
A truck crossed the intersection and the vehicle in front of me hit him. Both spun out opposite directions… and her vehicle flipped.
Right in front of me.
I saw the driver of the truck moving around, so I ran straight to her banging on her sunroof. At first there was no response, and that moment sticks with you. Then she said, “I’m here,” and I felt instant relief. I stayed with her until help arrived.
Once first responders got there almost right away, I went to check on him. His adrenaline was going, but what stood out the most… he was so worried about her. You could feel & see it instantly too. I’m sure once everything settles, he’ll be feeling it physically too.
She was taken to the hospital. No exterior bleeding that I seen, and we’re praying everything is okay internally. He was very shaken up, but okay physically and I said you will feel it in a couple hours.
But this hit me deeper than just what I saw.
I’ve been in an accident. I’ve caused an accident. And this year, I’ve sat in a hospital praying over one of my own watching what could have gone very wrong with Tori and all the work she has put in to get to where she is today. That changes you. It makes moments like this feel a lot heavier.
And we’re heading into motorcycle season…
Those bikes are small. They’re exposed. And they are so easy to miss if you’re not paying attention. I have a bike myself, and if I’m being honest, moments like this are exactly why I’m terrified to even get on it. Not because of my driving, but because not everyone is looking. I’ve lost many great people over the years.
As a business, we talk a lot about showing up, taking care of people, and going above and beyond. Today was a real-life reminder of what that actually looks like.
Life changes fast. Really fast.
Please look twice. Please slow down. Please get where you’re going safely. The people waiting on you matter more than anything and so do you!
Hug your people today. 🤍
