The DEEP Wildlife Division is receiving a lot of questions about this invasive pest. Pictured here is the spotted lanternfly (SLF), a relatively new plant pest to Connecticut that represents a significant threat to our environment, including residential areas and agricultural interests, particularly forests, orchards, vineyards, and nurseries.

As spotted lanternfly nymphs and adults feed on the sap from trees and vines, the entire plant can weaken because it cannot photosynthesize as effectively. Spotted lanternflies also impact agricultural crops, often causing reduced yields and generally weakening the plants, if not completely destroying them.

If you think you have observed spotted lanternflies, do not attempt to move any wood or other potentially infested material from the site. Instead, report your sightings and, if you are able, kill any spotted lanternflies you find immediately.

The invasion of the spotted lanternflies is intensifying, and if you haven't been doing your part to kill them, it's time to step up.

This tick has been hanging around for us to show people for a while. After months in a sealed container with no additional feeding she laid eggs. This gives you an idea of how long a tick can be dormant and how many eggs one female can lay. Remember ticks bloom again in the fall so keep up with prevention.
